Best next gen games available

Postby Everlong » Apr 29, '15, 4:29 pm

Hey folks,

So I recently beat Shadow of Mordor and am looking for other games that I might be interested in for my Xbox One. What are the best next gen games you've played recently, preferably ones that are console specific but any that have come out recently will suffice. It just seems like all the games I'm interested in aren't coming out til much later this year, but my birthday is coming up and I usually get myself a game for it.

Trade in your Xbone for a PS4 and get Bloodborne and Last of Us. :P

Dragon Age is the shit if that type of game is your bag.

^I'm actually playing Dragon Age: Origins for the first time right now on PC, so far I like it. What is Bloodborne all about?

If you've ever played Dark Souls or Demons Souls it's like that. It's very challenging but fair. The game is god damned awesome.

Yeah I've heard play that but not DA2, is that accurate?

Also, I have not played Demon Souls or Dark Souls but my brother keeps harping on me to do it. I bought Dark Souls on the Steam sale last year but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Well first of all, you should definitely play Dark Souls. It took me forever to get around to it but once I did it became one of my favourite games ever. It is fantastic. Listen to your brother :lol

I'd say only go for Inquisition if you really like Origins and need more Dragon Age in your life. It's a much weaker game in my opinion and there's a lot of bullshit in the game like an abundance of pointless fetch quests and obnoxious loading times. The story missions are good but it always felt like too much of a chore whenever you were in between them.

I know you've said Xbox specific but there's really not much to speak of this year unless you like Halo. I don't know how good your PC is so I don't know if there are any multiplatform games you'd want on the Xbone.

I built a pretty great PC this past fall, so I can play just about anything on max graphics and everything right now. I tend to prefer playing RPGs/strategy games on the computer, and sports games/some adventure games on console.

Well, The Witcher 3 is an adventure RPG so it's in both categories I guess, it'll be on both platforms so take your pick. Looks like it's going to be fantastic and it's out next month so if you've still not played the second game (first can be skipped and you're fine) I'd pick it up.

If you do end up liking Dark Souls the remastered version of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is on Xbone and PC and is definitely worth playing. Also falls into that action RPG genre so I guess you could get it on either. If it weighs the choice, I play it on PC, we could play. :P

I've been right into Pillars of Eternity (PC only) recently. It's an isometric RPG by Obsidian that released last month, the writing style is brilliant and I've been having a blast getting to know the world and stuff. I've been recommending it to anyone who'll listen since I got hooked.

I've yet to play it but from what I've heard from friends, Ori and the Blind Forest is really good. It's a gorgeous looking Metroidvania game with more of a focus on platforming. I hear it brings the feels.

Speaking of charming platformers, this one's a little older but if you never played Rayman Legends that game is a load of fun. It's got a really pleasing art style and a bucket load of interesting levels. That game was a great one for me to hop on and relax, always put me in a good mood.

The two Metro survival horror games got a much needed and very well done remaster last year under the name Metro Redux. They're very atmospheric and have a great balance of combat and stealth with an interesting apocalyptic Russian setting.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I've got Witcher 2 for PC as well. Played through the tutorial and it seemed really really complicated, so it kind of scared me off :lol Maybe I'll give it a fair shot again after I get through Dragon Age.

The tutorial for that game is terrible, it's a shame because a lot of people I know quit after playing it but half of the shit the tutorial throws at you you can either ignore or figure out later. If you just play the game proper I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I'd like to offer a counter point and say, even if you play the game, it's just pointlessly complicated. I really didn't like it. The game constantly felt like it was getting in my way with inane rules.

I can't say I ever felt that. I pretty much just played however I wanted and got through easily enough. Can you give me some examples of what you mean?

I hear Sunset Overdrive is a really good game for the Xbox One. I haven't played or tried it but the recommendation comes from my co-worker who I have faith in quality games. We banter about games all the time and I dunno if you guys picked up the vibe about me but I am very picky about my games.
