ESPN First Take just went off on Carolina's front office and roster. It's what I've been saying. Cam looks bad but they are just ruining him.

"They are killing this kid slowly." - Stephen A. Smith

I'm afraid this might be true.

Not very often that I hear a First Take segment and think that one (or in this case, both) of the people sound reasonable. The fact that the title of the segment is "how much blame is on Cam Newton" is kind of annoying, but at least the content actually shows some sense. The guy's getting absolutely crushed out there and they've possibly wrecked his career with their negligence in handling their personnel.

Check your facts (again).

Cam Newton in Primetime Games (7 games):

61%, 1,539 passing yards, 9 passing TDs, 4 INTs (not so bad when you consider 3 came in 1 game, his first primetime game in 2012 against the previous years Super Bowl Champions), 89.4 QB Rating, 268 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs

In 4 of the 7 games he finished with a QB Rating of 98 or higher and has 3 Primetime games with 3 or more TDs.

Cam Newton on MNF is 2-0, including a victory over the New England Patriots, and he recorded a 125 QB Rating in both games with 5 passing touchdowns and 2 rushing touchdowns, 0 turnovers.

But Cam Newton has ALWAYS been complete ass on Primetime. Right.

So, he's 3-5 overall in the 8 games he's played?

61%, 1,840 passing yards, 11 passing TDs, 7 INTs.

0-3 this season alone. Image

Also, for whatever reason ole' boy Ron is reported saying Cam Newton isn't hurt as early as a few hours ago. I wonder what's the scoop on that?

Stop backtracking. You said Cam Newton had never played well on Primetime - as a matter of fact, you said he was always complete ass in those situations.

And if you choose to believe Ron Rivera, then more power to you. He is not going to come outright and say Cam Newton is injured. Rivera wants to believe Newton is healthy though and in a condition to complete a turnaround to save the season because that is the only chance he has at keeping his job.

Anyone who has seen Newton play this year knows he is hurt, all of Carolina's beat writers have reported he is hurt, Cam Newton himself as said in press conferences that he is still not 100% (player speak for saying they are hurt). He limps to the sidelines and bends over on one knee like he was just shot every game, his throwing hand is wrapped up, his wrist was knicked up last week, two bum ankles (he can't even run away from lineman), and ribs that are still bothering him (from the mouth of the man himself, Newton). He's injured. That isn't making an excuse for him. He hasn't played well. But he is not in a position to succeed and deep down, you know that.

I didn't back track, I just gave you the numbers. Obviously he hasn't been ass in every single game he's played but the whole picture says otherwise. I expected them to get jocked and they did.

I'm not diving into his injuries and what is and isn't being reported. I don't really care about that at this moment. I know it can affect his play, but whenever he was 'healthy' and feeling good, he was still playing like shit.

I do know he's not in the best position he could be in, in which he needs to succeed. If he were, I probably wouldn't be singing a different tune though, because as recently as last season I still wasn't buying into the hype of his standing among the other NFL field generals. Newton needs a lot of pieces to the puzzle around him, with the growth of a better team, he will preform better.

I need to see him thrive year to year and be a threat to the league along with his team, to place him in the upper deck. It's the only way I see it.

I'd like to see some context behind these stats, no way Cam Newton has been hit more in the pocket than Andrew Luck. Also why is Luck and Wilson missing from this list?

Probably because they have one less year of statistics.

Horrible numbers right there, I believe they're inflated a bit though. Cam's a guy with great play-making ability in his legs, I'm going to make a safe assumption that him breaking the pocket is where a grand number of those hits are acquired from.

Rough shit regardless, a guy can't have a long life span in this league taking those types of hits. If anything it's declining Newton faster because he's not a Grade A pocket passer or anything.

It wasn't bullshit. The defender had no intentions of getting up hence the play was ruled dead.

He had no intentions of getting up because he handed the ball to a defender who was already standing. If you don't take a knee or slide feet first you aren't giving yourself up. That's always been the rule. Come on you know it was crap.

He didn't hand it to him.

The guy got the INT, rolled on his back, laid there, and Poyer yanked it from him.

And he did that all without getting touched down by a Panther player. Last time I checked this was still the NFL not college.
