I wouldn't mind seeing Orton vs Batista at Mania...

Postby VaderBomb » Jan 21, '14, 11:12 am

But ONLY if it were a non-title match.

Both guys could be gunning to be Steph and Triple H's "guy", attempting to reclaim the glory that they both once had. It would prevent us from having to watch BOTH an Orton match and a Batista match, not to mention that the two of them have never really had a truly big match against each other. It wouldn't be a spectacular match by any means, but it would be beneficial to the rest of the card for the reasons I already stated.

Thoughts?

Yeah I agree with this. Orton is a natural guy to have Batista face, but man would I ever be pissed if Batista were to win the rumble and get a title shot.

Batista won't win the Rumble. He'd better not. He's been gone for years and already has a Rumble "win" on his record. CM Punk deserves to win this one... if Bryan is only working that singles match with Wyatt. Still gunning for Bryan to be in and to win the RR, though.

I think they are making it seem like Batista winning is a sure thing, so that when Bryan ends up winning it isn't completely predictable.

I'd agree with this. I'm 100% sure the original plans called for Batista to be the shock final entrant and win before his return was leaked but last night he came out and pretty much guaranteed a win and teased a feud with Orton so I can't see him not winning.

Punk won't win now they've announced him as the first entrant. He might survive until the end and he'll probably eliminate all three members of The Shield but again I'm certain that HHH or Kane (on HHH's behalf) will cost Punk the match.

Unless they have Bryan surprise us and enter the match I can't see anyone other than Batista winning and it'll be a sorry, underwhelming shame when it inevitably happens.

^ But if the main event is Orton vs Batista for the championship, where does that leave Bryan, Punk, Cena and Lesnar? Who are all arguably bigger names than both Randy and Batista.

Bryan vs Lesnar?
Punk vs Cena?

They would be cool matches, but wouldn't make much sense right now. Especially Punk vs Cena non-title.

Cena vs Bryan/Lesnar
Cena involved in something to do with Hogan...

I would rather see Batista vs. Lesnar in a street fight or a cage match. Batista is about the only one that could hang with lesnars hard style and make it look somewhat two sided.

^^ Personally, I think putting Batista in a ring with Lesnar would expose him. They have similar physiques but one of them is a legitimate beast and the other one was never a great in ring performer, and not all that strong or agile compared to his peers.

I don't understand why people always want to see matches like that anyway. Lesnar v Ryback was talked about before too, and I didn't get the appeal there either. I have to say that when I think about dream matches, I think about pairing guys who have interesting differences, not similarities. Young vs old, big vs small, technical vs brawler. The reason I think Punk v Austin is a big dream match is the major differences in their personalities/lifestyles. Lesnar versus Lesnar Light sounds dull in comparison.

Back on topic though, I'd agree with vader. Orton v Batista is a very logical match for Wrestlemania. It'd be a good draw, because there's plenty of history there to help sell the match and they've never had a major confrontation before. To be honest, this match could have and probably SHOULD have been done for the title at Wrestlemania in the past, but we're talking about 5 years ago. They missed the boat on making this feud Wrestlemania main event worthy. Now it would just make a nice middle-of-the-show grudge match.

The main reason I would want to see this is because lesnar matches have done nothing for me lately. They are all the same, lesnar hits the ring and dominates, the face has two or three moments to show some fight threw out the match then lesnar dominates again until everyone is certain he has decimated the face until a "desperation" move is hit by the face for a victory.

Batista has enough experience and ability to make the match interesting, to give a back and forth match. I bet those two could put on a 45 min+ match and keep it entertaining without either one of them playing the underdog or the punching bag.

As for ryback, fuck him. That guy sucks.

I don't think even Bret Hart in his prime could carry Batista to an entertaining 45 minute match.

Okay, so maybe 45 is a bit excessive. All I am saying is that I think they would compliment each other in the ring instead of having lesnars opponent being a glorified punching bag for the match.
