Man. You knew this was going to be coming soon, but it's still huge news. A great man indeed.

Incredibly saddening news. His condition wasn't great but you always hope he'll pull through after the other scares he's had but to live at 95 and despite retiring from public view in 2004 and still being revered, says it all.

A man who history will and can never forget.

RIP Madiba.

I'm glad he finally died. Not for any mean reasons, I just know he has not been well for a long time and I am glad that a great man such as Mandela (or anyone for that matter) no longer has to suffer. I figured it was coming at any time, since he has had so many more problem in the last year or two. Good night sweet prince and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

And take David Cameron's words with a pinch of salt: pic.twitter.com/MWH6KHrwry

No point in saying how he is a hero to you or your inspiration if you can't take his behaviour, principles into action in your own role.

I really weep at people's inability to research something carefully before coming out with stupid comments as "Mandela ain't a symbol of peace - do people forget killing innocent people, terrorism!!!". That came from my FB wall from a chap I used to chill with when I was younger. It's like - read up about the man more for what he really did before making it posts like that. He's turned into one of those who believes any poor journalism he reads rather than do his own homework. Frustrating.

Also, came across this article that shows how Mandela, from the obituaries he's rightly receiving, deserves to be applauded for his criticism of the US, Israel and other foreign policy issues, not just only about South Africa.

Well he was a terrorist.

In 2008? Or since he was released from prison?

As usual, US motives on placing him on the list seemed to be about other issues being reportedly linked in with Mandela but they didn't know obviously but just fears.

Initially he was part of a terrorist organization, so he was a terrorist.

Just so happens he was one of the most important terrorists in history.

Not initially, he tried to push for diplomatic means to get justice but - speaking from a position of ignorance and a basic understanding of his early life - after that failed, went down that route.

I think we may be past the point of trying to justify any part of Mandelas life surely?

He died one of the most important people in history.

It is what it is.

Pretty apt way to finish off, won't disagree on that.
