What is your favorite city?

Postby Everlong » Apr 25, '16, 9:12 am

Favorite city you've been to. What is it?

In the U.S., I really like Boston and Madison. Boston was way cooler than I could have ever anticipated, especially given how much I hate their sports teams.

Internationally, I loved Zurich so much. I'd totally live there if I were to move to Europe. Florence is also quite beautiful. I've been a lot of awesome places overseas, but those stand out the most.

Spent a day in Glasgow. Lovely people, but I don't think I passed one pub that didn't look like it'd been burnt down and rebuilt with the same brick, and the windows replaced with wooden boards.

Bristol, UK - I've been there a few times and it's great. The city seems to have a really positive vibe. It was recently voted the best place to live in the UK, and was the European 'Green Capital' of 2015. It's got some great architecture, a huge cycling culture, and good pubs with good beer. It's the place to be.

Southampton, UK - I went to uni in Southampton and have had a few jobs down there since, one which took me all over the city. It's got a pretty impressive maritime history, loads of castle ruins and the New Forest isn't too far away. It's always seemed a pretty positive place.

Isle of Wight, UK - There's some great pubs here, and similar to Southampton, some really cool maritime stuff. Ryde is particularly cool, same with Newport.

London, UK - I've always enjoyed seeing the sights and going on the Underground. A good day out, and depending on where you go there's some good pubs too.

Lille, France - I went there at Christmas a few years ago and they had the most incredible Christmas market I've ever seen. I'd love to go again.

I'm very much into Italian history, culture and food, so my favourite of the cities I've visited is probably Rome. The food is gorgeous. There are so many historical landmarks and things to see and do. Everything is beautiful - even tiny back alleys often sport ornate fountains, sculptures or architecture. It's a big city, but you can walk almost anywhere. I loved almost everything about Rome.

I was in Verona for part of my honeymoon earlier this month, and that was a great experience too. It's a beautiful city, but much more understated and relaxed than Rome. There's not as much to do there, but the atmosphere is great. It was a pleasant surprise as I had been looking forward to seeing Venice on my trip much more, but Verona probably left a bigger impression.

Florence is the next city on my bucket list that I really want to see.

I actually quite like Glasgow. People seemed cool - probably the closest to the Irish mentality that I've seen in a foreign city if that makes any sense. The best concert I've ever seen live was in Glasgow, and a big part of that was the crowd. It also has by far my favourite airport that I've been to. :P It felt like a small town train station. I was basically in and out in 5 minutes each way.

I haven't decided yet; but, I do like a place where it's peaceful and I can be left the hell alone :)
