On the 3D subject, I have seen one movie where I enjoyed the 3D in the cinema. That being Coraline. It's a fun, creepy, stop-motion film based on a Neil Gaiman story. The 3D was done really well, I thought.

I think that's the first 3D film I saw, and everything since then has been a massive disappointment.

Yo 3D doesn't even work for me, I wish the trend would piss off. Though I think we had that discussion recently as it is.

On an unrelated note, what's the biggest animal you could kill with your bare hands?

I have only ever liked 3D with animated films (if I liked it at all) other than Avatar. I thought Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey had some neat 3D effects for everything. I remember one of the scenes it was snowing, my nephew (who was probably 12 or 13 at the time) tried wiping snow from his shoulders. That was a particularly fond moment for me. The rest has been rubbish. I hated Avengers 2 in 3D and afterwards decided I'd always opt for the 2D version if it was offered from now on.

My thoughts on the top 10:

Avatar - Cool 3D gimmick to see for the first time in theaters, meh after that.

Titanic - Absolutely deserves its spot on this list. Great movie.

Furious 7 - Haven't seen it, maybe I will some day since it seems to have the best reviews of the franchise. Also The Rock.

Avengers - Oooh yeah, dig it.

Age of Ultron - Not as good as the first one, will probably be better on a rewatch. Not surprised at its spot here.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 - My favorite Harry Potter film. Loved it.

Frozen - Haven't seen it, don't really care to. Doesn't seem like a movie I'll get into.

Iron Man 3 - Okay movie, minus a few head-scratching moments. Surprised it's this high on the list. Really goes to show the success of the MCU.

Transformers 3 - I caught it on TV once and ended up watching like a half hour of it. It wasn't "good" good but with all the large-scale destruction and action scenes, I can see how it could make a lot of money in Asia.

Return of the King - Favorite movie on here.

I don't know why people associate the word 'gimmick' with Avatar's use of 3D. By definition, it is an experimental, highly innovative film, and really not gimmicky in the least. All of the idle and pointless post-production 3D conversions we saw after Avatar are gimmicks. Such films are not shot on stereoscopic 3D cameras, nor are they treated like a 3D production on set or even during editorial. Rather, they are photographed conventionally and then indolently converted to the format purely because of contractual obligations. It seems like it is the norm to call Avatar a 'fun and cool 3D gimmick film', but it's really, really not.

I guess gimmick wasn't the right word. I meant that everyone went to go see it in theaters when it came out, (including me) and was impressed by the technology. "Event" maybe is more fitting. Like how certain movies are referred to as "the biggest event of the summer" in ads, except Avatar was definitely that during the winter it came out. The innovative 3D was the reason people went to see it. I'm not surprised that it's the highest grossing film of all time. Anyway, now that I've seen it several times on DVD, I would say it's pretty average overall, at least compared to some of the other movies on this list that I really like even on a rewatch.

Like Deathly Hallows Part 2 which was really good, despite what some individuals here would have you believe.
