Holy shit. Kevin Owens Promo

Postby VaderBomb » Jun 01, '15, 10:57 pm

Last time anybody tore apart and criticized every aspect of Cena's character like that was CM Punk. That shit was so deep. Even Edge's promos against Cena were more manic and stressed out than pivotal as Owens' attack. Hopefully Owens beats Cena again in the rematch, he's on fire right now.

^Really great stuff from both Owens and Cena there. That's the first I've ever seen of Owens and I'm definitely impressed. I've heard he's quite good in the ring, too.

He's incredible in the ring.

Fuck. I just realized that I didn't choose a Steen/Generico match for my greatest matches list.

He is incredible.

I know a lot of people on this board said that his mic work in NXT seemed kind of bored and uninspired, but his game has been top notch since coming up to the main roster.

I thought it was great, Cena can really step up his promo game when he needs to. I know some people had a problem with him throwing Adam Rose and the Funkasaurus under the bus. But those gimmicks are and were shit and even those guys know it. I thought Cena made a great point about how Owens scratched and clawed his way to WWE when he was never supposed to, and how it was actually him who lived by "Never Give Up" as much as Cena. :lol

Re: Holy shit. Kevin Owens Promo

Kevin Owens beating John Cena was built and showcased as this shock moment. A defining moment and a moment that said that Kevin Owens has arrived.

John Cena manages to make that not really matter. He starts off okay but essentially by the end of his promo he's asking Kevin Owens "well you did beat me, but how many kids with cancer do you help?"

Whether it was planned or not (if it was planned than it's even worse), the child with cancer was a touching moment. I don't think anyone would say that from the kids point of view, it wasn't special. I'm sure it was great. But watch Kevin Owens during that moment of the promo. He cannot say, do or think anything. He just smiles and that's probably the only thing he can't do. The problem when John Cena goes to the out of the ring activities that he does is that he leaves very little room for his opponent. What's Kevin Owens supposed to say? Sit down kid, I hope you die?

Then there was the whole thing about him not being a man despite being a father when Cena, in reality, is a near 40 man child with lots of cars and a big house. Who's more of a man? Idk.

The thing is, Owens had already gotten a chance to speak. It's not like after Cena mentioned the kid he had to give a long monologue or any kind of response at all. He cut his promo, and did very well with it, said his piece, and then Cena said his. Even if he couldn't "respond" to that, he didn't have to, so it's no harm no foul to me.

Is that how conversations work?

You had your post, I had mine shall we just fuck off and go spit? That's not how conversations work. There's a huge disconnect between what should happen "in real life" and what actually happens in the ring. This is just bad writing plain and simply. Unrealistic dialogue is bad writing. Now, i'm not saying wrestling should have realistic dialogue to but have Kevin Owens stand there like a goon after Cena went on and on about how much he helps people and how much he lives the creed of Hustle, Loyalty and Respect is daft. Cena made remarks about something really personal to Owens, his son, and Kevin just stood there, teased the fight and left.

He needed rebuttal, that's what's missing in promos these days anyway. There's no play off each other. You say your bit, I come out and I say my bit. Or if you're Cena, I get to say a little bit after. But how can you come back from "this cancer kid loves me, what about you?" you can't. This is especially true when working with Cena, who more often than not, gets the last word. And if the last word is to cut the legs right from under you where have you left to go?

Okay I can see your point about back and forth's missing from WWE today. But Owens could still have responded to that, he's a smart guy, he should be able to come up with something. A simple "It's great that you help kids John, but at Money in the Bank, you won't be helping kids, you'll have to help yourself. Those kids can't save you inside this ring". I just thought of that in two seconds, he doesn't have to directly respond to those kids with cancer, there's still plenty of things he can say to John Cena.

This is the problem with the "new era" of wrestling and "new era" fans. John Cena's the face. He's the good guy. He's supposed to be shown doing good things and being honorable. It's not up to him to "leave Owens room" to be redeemable and cheered. Owens is the heel. He's the bad guy. He's supposed to be hated. Hell he's supposed to say sit down, I hope you die. Pro wrestling would be better for the heel to have no room to be liked. Pro wrestling would be better for it if the entire audience was cheering the Cena character and booing the Kevin Owens character.
