I have only gotten into beers a bit more within the last couple of years, so my knowledge of them is very limited, especially since I don't drink much in the first place. If I do I am usually more of a whiskey guy, anyways...

I like stouts. Which kind of surprised me because I previously always went for lighter beers, I thought I would only like lighter beers because I never cared for the taste of beer, and I thought the darker it is the stronger taste it would have. I have only had 1 stout I didn't care for, it was a locally brewed one, we have a lot of small breweries opening up in the area that do their own brews. I also have not tried ti Guinness stout but I heard it wasn't very good, so I am in no rush to give it a go.

I also like Sapporo (ASIIAAAAN) which is a Japanese rice lager. I have no idea what other lagers there are or what I should try in terms of lagers that are in the area. I also noticed I love Sapporo much more draught than from the can.

When I visited Belgium I had a Duvel. I only remember the name, I don't remember much about it. Also... Gentse Tripel? I think? I can't remember.

I know I don't care for IPA's I dunno what it is but I feel like beer is having some big popularity shift in Washington and people are starting to be real beer lovers here, like it is cool to enjoy beer more. All I hear is "I love my hops" or "gotta have the hops" or hops this hops that, I have no clue what they are talking about and I sometimes think they don't either.

IPA is probably the one.

Out of interest are there any worthwhile breweries in the Chicago area worth seeing?

@Chewy

Yes!

Revolution Brewing
Goose Island
Three Floyds (technically in Munster, Indiana, but close enough.)
Lagunitas (based in California, but they recently built a 2nd brewery in Chicago)
Two Brothers

And in Milwaukee about 75 minutes north you've got a few great ones including:

Lakefront Brewery
Milwaukee Brewing Company
Brenner Brewing Company
Sprecher Brewing Company

I'm an IPA man myself but I also really enjoy a top notch Belgian more than most things.

Eh, it's not really even about craft beers to me. If I'm going to have a macrobrew I don't ever go for a Budweiser product. I'd much rather Miller products.

As a man who hates the taste of beer and has puked after only a single sip of Coors Light. What do you guys recommend that I try? The less beer tasting the better, so no Steel Reserve suggestions or something like that. :lol

Coors Light is piss. That's why you puked. If you are looking for a more mild flavor I'd might select Miller 64. It's got a pretty mild taste.

If Coors made you puke, you're probably going to hate pretty much any beer. Yeah, there are tons of beers that taste better than Coors, but if you're really that sensitive to the bitter beer taste there's no way you'll like any of them. I recommend Angry Orchard, Redd's, Twisted Tea. Basically any ale or alcoholic beverage that goes out of its way not to taste like alcohol.

Fairly acquired taste in my opinion. Takes some time to get used to, try a light beer while you are eating food maybe.

I don't know if I have a favorite type of beer, but I do have favorite individual beers

  • Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat
  • Goose Island Green Line Pale Ale (Chicago Only)
  • Founders Breakfast Stout
  • Shiner Birthday Beer
  • Sweetwater IPA
  • Stella Cidre (if that counts...)

I'm actually making a mental list of beers I wanna try out in the near future -- some of them include Goose Island Blue Line Pilsner, Shiner Ruby Redbird, Tallgrass Buffalo Stout & 8-Bit Pale Ale, and more ...

I think if anything, Goose is my favorite brewery.

Rolling Rock. It's refreshing. Almost like water and doesn't taste like total ass like Light beers and other mainstream shit.
