Who is someone that people generally praise but was actually a horrible person?

In the past, Columbus would have been the poster boy for this question. Think of people that the general public considers to be some kind of hero, but was actually a huge asshole or did some reprehensible things.

John Lennon - he had a history of demostic violence and was emotionally abusive to his partners. He openly admitted this on several occasions, not that it makes it any better, but still.

Well, Obama has a nobel peace prize...

When essentially he is just a stopgap for the next Clinton/Bush affiliation to come forward in 2016. Another puppet with things like not closing Guantamono Bay, the Kill List...his alleged drone strikes quote. So I would say him. He is not much different than Bush.

Yeah, the fact that Obama has a Nobel peace prize is a freaking joke, but I wouldn't call him a terrible person. Just an average politician who didn't live up to lofty expectations.

He certainly has blurred the lines between "politician" and "terrible person" plenty of times...remember that Benghazi nightmare? Granted, that was Hillary's fault, a warmonger, who very well could be the progressive sequel to "first black prez" Obama, with the first female president, Hillary Clinton. Just imagine Bill Clinton floating around...ugh.

Chris Benoit, although the investigation was pretty lazy. I'm still not entirely convinced that it wasn't a triple homicide. Perhaps I should have posted this in the controversial opinions thread.

Come on, man. It was pretty clearly a double-murder suicide.

They scanned his brain as well (I believe) and it revealed he was like an 80 year old dementia patient at that time. So I mean I'm all for a nice conspiracy theory but this looks like an open and shut case.

Even before the tragic double-murder suicide which may have been caused by some kind of mental break, it sounds like Benoit was far from a great guy. He seemed like a locker room bully. Maybe not on the same level as a JBL or a Hardcore Holly, but he was up there. There are enough stories out there of him hounding younger wrestlers and personalities.
