Meltzer: Reigns the least over wrestler ever to main event WrestleMania

I k now there's been a lot of Meltzer quotes posted on here lately, but the guy's opinions obviously carry a lot of weight.

Basically he thinks that Reigns is the least over wrestler ever to main event a WrestleMania.

Nah, he's not quite the least over wrestler to main event Wrestlemania. There were others who weren't all that over. Sid Justice is one. I've never watched Wrestlemania 2, but I reckon King Kong Bundy wasn't much better. Though even those two were pretty over in comparison to Sergeant Slaughter, who was not over at all. Wrestlemania 7 was a resounding flop as a result. The company pretends that the arenas were changed because Slaughter was receiving death threats, but realistically it was changed because tickets were not selling and the arena it was supposed to be in was far too big.

He is probably the least over face to ever wrestle in the main event. And maybe he'll be the least over person to win the title at Wrestlemania. So basically WWE has made stupid mistakes like this before, but this is still a pretty stupid mistake.

I was going to suggest Diesel as another contender, but now that I think about it he's never main evented. At Wrestlemania 11 it was actually Bam Bam and a football player in the main event.

I haven't watched it in a long time but pretty sure there's been a lot worse celebrity matches. I believe Bam Bam got a lot of credit for getting a passable match out of LT.

Miz at WM 27 was really freaking over. It's easy to forget now because of what his career has become, but dude was getting massive responses during his feud with Cena. I also think there's probably a need for a distinction between triple threat/fatal fourway main events and a head-to-head contest. Big Show has been thrown into a couple of multi-man matches as well as a few others, but Reigns is probably the least over face in a one-on-one match to main event WrestleMania.
