Justice department finds pattern of racial bias among Ferguson police

The Justice Department will issue findings Wednesday that accuse the police department in Ferguson, Mo., of racial bias and routinely violating the constitutional rights of black citizens by stopping drivers without reasonable suspicion, making arrests without probable cause and using excessive force, officials said.

Federal officials opened their civil rights investigation into the Ferguson police department after the uproar in the St. Louis suburb and across the country over the fatal shooting in August of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, by Darren Wilson, a white Ferguson police officer. A grand jury in St. Louis declined to indict Wilson in November.

Federal officials will not bring civil rights charges against Wilson, but they see their broad civil rights investigation into the troubled Ferguson police department as the way to force significant changes in Ferguson policing.

I'm all for stopping police brutality. It's horrible what happened to that guy who got choked out by those cops. That was awful. He was like selling cigarettes or some shit according the cop. Nothing that warranted such an assault. That being said, I think the Mike Brown case is a tragic story, but unrelated. Apparently Michael Brown reached for Darren's gun, which sounds extreme, but he was roughing up some poor store owner prior to that. It also make sense, if Wilson shot him in the apex of the head as he was reaching for it. Not enough evidence was presented for him to be found guilty and I agree with that. I don't think he wanted to kill Mike Brown under any racial bias or otherwise.

On the topic of racial profiling, it's bad. I think it's a hard thing to draw a line through. If you live in a poor area, maybe income housing or w/e, with a high population of minorities and the crime rate is high...I mean, I don't know. Not everybody is guilty. How do you not have a racial bias if you are targeting a certain race? Is it racist to target a certain race in a specific area if they commit a majority of the crime? I can't even answer that myself, it's a tough question.

Reports showed that it was impossible for Michael Brown to reach for Darren's gun and his testimony had a lot of logical fallacies. Also, he didn't rough up the store owner at all and that incident has nothing to do with why he was stopped.

I'm not convinced at all that Mike Brown is innocent. I also don't take anything associated with Al Sharpton seriously. Most black people know he's a fraud. I've heard that they left his body in the street though. That is one part I don't understand.

Umm, what reports? The reports I seen reported on by CNN, MSNBC, fox news and others said Darren's story could not be disproven. He had injuries to his face/head indicative to a person being attacked threw a car window and the injuries to browns arm/hand combined with browns blood being inside the cop car suggest he was most likely holding the barrel of Darren's gun in the car when the first 2 shots were fired. I am not going to get in some heated debate over this so I will leave it at that.

The body in the street thing is not uncommon in cases with questions. The medical examiner needs to release the body to the cops prior to it being removed, if he/she feels there is any questions or something not right the body will stay there until they feel right to move it. Combine that with the fergusun PD not being the controlling agency because it was a police shooting means they had to wait for county sheriff's or state police to conclude their onsite documentation prior to moving then body. It had nothing to do about race, it was just protocol and the need for attention to detail with evidence collection and photography.
