So Cena technically lost via submission tonight. When was the last time that happened, anyone know offhand?

Probably not since he had a match with Angle or Benoit back in 2003/2002. Definitely not since then though.

He technically didn't tap out since he was almost passed out from the low blow. However it been some time since maybe like @Messiah said 2002/2003

I was close but wrong. He tapped out at No Way Out in 2004 in a match with Kurt Angle. That was the last time Cena tapped out. Angle also made Cena tap out at No Mercy 2003.

Benoit forced Cena to tap out in 2003 in a No. 1 Contender's match for the WWE Championship. Those two are the only two to have ever made Cena tap.

Hopefully WWE plays that up. I mean looking at a fact like that will make Rusev look like even more of a badass moving forward, even if he eventually loses to Cena at Mania. He can replace bragging about being an unstoppable monster who had an undefeated streak to bragging about being one of only three men to ever make Cena tap out/lose via submission.

Was this a clean win for Rusev?

Shame Cena wins at Mania but hopefully they have a third bout so Rusev wins the overall feud but Cena probably be off challenging Reigns after Mania or something like that I imagine and poor Rusev on the downward spiral to an irrelevant jobber.

No it wasn't particularly clean, but not necessarily outrageous either. Lana climbed on the apron and distracted the referee so that Rusev could kick Cena below the belt. Then he slapped the Accolade on got Cena to pass out, half from getting kicked in the nuts, half from the move. They really let Rusev get a fair amount of offense in throughout the match though.

You mean that he can brag about being the only man to ever beat Cena by submission. Even leaving aside WWE's rule about never referencing Benoit on air, Cena's tap out losses happened over ten years ago and before he was a main eventer. WWE wouldn't reference them, and would expect everybody else to have forgotten about them. In this case, I can't say I would mind all that much either.

Rusev kicked Cena's head in as well just before locking in his submission.................that I beleive will be the point Cena was unconscious........not by the submission hold.
