A deal has been struck between Marvel and Sony, which means we're almost guaranteed to see Spiderman get involved with the Avengers now in future movies. Huge news in the comic/movie world.

I prefer Tobey, my general stance is that as Peter Parker, he's miles ahead of Garfield, who probably edges it as Spidey. At the same time though, I definitely prefer the Raimi movies so by association Maguire pulls ahead again. :lol I'm confident whoever gets the nod this time will be pretty good as Marvel has been pretty on the money with their casting so far.

I haven't seen the Andrew Garfield Spiderman movies, but I thought Tobey was pretty decent until Spiderman 3, which wasn't his fault because that entire movie was a freaking mess.

Kind of a random choice, but Drake Bell has the right look. No idea if the dude could act the part though. Also I wouldn't mind Miles Teller.

The same cartoon has JK Simmons as Jonah and Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, if they've gone that way it's quite possible Bell could make the jump up to be the live-action Spidey and I definitely wouldn't be against it. Btw speaking of JK Simmons as Jonah surely they'll bring him back right? He fucking IS that character.

Donald Glover.

Please. I want Peter Parker to be played by Childish Gambino! I also kind of want to see the s*itstorm if we get a black Spiderman, but the hell with it. Johnny Storm's black, Peter Parker can be, too!

On top of that, I think Donald Glover can get the balance right. Tobey had the introspective, sensitive Parker down pat, but his fun side was weak. Garfield was the exact opposite, capturing that snarky, joking attitude perfectly, but not really getting you to feel any emotional weight. Now, I think they're both fine actors, and a lot of their performance did have to do with the script and direction, but you could clearly tell which side of Parker they were more interested in playing.

I hope that the full movie they do isn't another origin story. We all know how it goes, nerd gets bitten by a radioactive/mutant/genetically-engineered/flushed-down-the-toilet spider, he becomes awesome. We don't need to see it again. I'm also wondering if they should heavily involve a love interest at all. One of the bigger problems with the two versions is that there was such a focus on the romance. Now don't get me wrong, I thought the relationship between Parker and Gwen Stacy was the best part of the "Amazing" series, but again, at this point, it'll feel like a re-tread. We've seen Gwen Stacy die, we've seen the Mary Jane melodrama, let's focus on Spidey being a Superhero. Hell, have his movie take place in between the two! After Gwen has died, show him struggling to do his duty, overcome his demons, and bring MJ in at the end.

I do hope that the MCU/Sony collaboration will work better than Sony alone. Marvel seems to be good at integrating characters gradually, so lets hope this works out.

But really, Donald Glover.

^ Glover is perfect for Miles Morales, but that character only really works when there's a Peter Parker to live up to. I could easily see him taking the reigns once the new Spidey has run his course!

Also, it won't be an origin story, they're done with those. Plus he's going to be in an MCU movie (Likely Civil War?) before his next solo outing! Chances are the main focus of the new Spidey will be the pressures of being a superhero in high school/having a secret identity (Which could also be spurned by the events of Cap 3)

If they were going the black Spidey route then they'd just use Miles Morales who is already black/hispanic instead of using the white Peter Parker. Donald Glover may do a well job as Miles, the character was somewhat based off him, but he definitely shouldn't be Peter Parker.

Re: Spiderman is now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Andrew Garfield was far better than Tobey Maguire at playing Spiderman. And by Spiderman I mean both the masked hero and Peter Parker. All Tobey Maguire showed us Parker's nerdy side. And not even a realistic modern take on a nerd either, more like a stereotype out of the 60s (or Big Bang Theory). Garfield still seemed nerdy, but he also demonstrated the other aspects of the character well. He seemed genuinely intelligent and passionate about science, he was a bit of a smart ass always ready with a quip ... he actually had chemistry with the rest of the cast. He wasn't just better than Maguire, I'd argue he's been the best thing about any of the Spiderman films so far. His Spiderman was spot-on.

The whole core cast was great really. Emma Stone was perfect as Gwen. Sally Field was perfect as Aunt May. And the guy playing Harry Osborne was very compelling. I would have really liked to see a Spiderman film with him as the only villain.

ASM2 was far from perfect, and the spin-off films were always a terrible idea, but I'd much rather have seen them continue the ASM series and just address the flaws with the next film than doing something drastic. They already have the perfect cast and are now at the perfect spot in the comics timeline, with all the obvious origin story stuff out of the way. From this point they could kinda go anywhere they wanted. A soft-reboot and another recasting doesn't appeal to me at all.

I really didn't want Spiderman going to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. People have been clamouring for it for ages, but the MCU films are generic and shallow as fuck and Spiderman is too good a character for them. Spiderman is a character that the audience should be really able to relate to. At their best, Spiderman stories always have a lot of heart and that's something that not a single one of the MCU films that I've seen have had. I'm not too interested in watching a shallow douchebag Spiderman playing sidekick to fucking Iron Man.

Hiring Donald Glover to play Spiderman is probably one of the few things they could do to make me at all interested in what comes next, but realistically that's very unlikely to happen.

Is Donald Glover even a decent actor? I've seen him do comedy in Community and on his own, but to be in the title role in a major movie like this he would have to, you know, actually do some dramatic acting as well. I'm not sure how good he would be in that role.

To be honest as someone who doesn't read comics and whose knowledge of the Marvel/DC Universe's is mainly from video games and the movies, I didn't even know there was other people who were Spiderman other than Parker. I'm not sure the large amount of casual fans who go to see these movies would be down with some other dude than Parker being the main character.
