Idea: PubTalkForum's Academy Awards

I think it would be fun for this forum to have its own version of the Academy Awards. The objective is simple - we choose our own winners from the Academy's recently announced nomination list. The winners chosen by the members of this site will be announced either a day before or after the real Oscars, and then we can compare our winners with their winners.

To keep things undemanding, effortless and straightforward, we'll just confine it to the main categories. I was thinking these:

Best Picture
Best Lead Actor
Best Lead Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Animated Film
Best Director
Best Cinematography
Best Score/Soundtrack
Best Screenplay (adapted or original)

If you agree to participate, you will have up until February 18 to submit your votes to me via. PM. This gives you all up to 2-3 weeks to catch up on some of the nominated films you might have missed in 2014. Chances are we've all already seen a fair few, so it's not that much of a challenge. Of course, you do not have to watch every single film that is nominated, but if you try and view more than a handful, it'll be more than okay.

It would be nice if we get more than a just a few users participating. The more comprehensive the list of voters, the more accomplished and complete the winners feel.

If enough people are interested in taking part in this, then I'll create a separate thread soon which will how the full list of nominees for the categories we've agreed to vote on. This way, you know what films to watch and what you have already seen. What do you think?

Definatley reccomend watching the nomminated films. Ive seen a good number and theyre all good. Whiplash, Bridman and Grand Budapest Hotel being my favorites.

The purpose of this is to have the exact same nomination list as the Academy. We will then juxtapose our selective winners to theirs. It'll make for an interesting comparison. But, if you'd like (and if others agree to it), we can create a small little category titled something like "Biggest Omission from the Best Picture Award" and subsequently vote on that.

Ive seen everything in Best Picture category except for Selma and the Imitation Game, and I dont think those two would change my mind. Just wanted to get mine in beforneit slipped my mind. Ive seen alot of movies this year

It didnt get nominated because it was suddenly shocking shit half way through.

I'd love to take part but I'm afraid my choices will be very biased as the only movie I have seen so far is Birdman. Hopefully I can watch a few more movies before the big night.

Sounds like a great idea. I've seen a few of the films already, but I just bought The Grand Budapest Hotel as it was the main film missing from what I've seen. Hoping to see Whiplash in the cinema over the next while too!
