Where does Undertaker's streak ending rank amongst wrestling's most shocking moments?

Postby PorkChop » Nov 09, '14, 6:28 am

Do you think it beats Hogan's heel turn from Bash at the Beach in 1996? Because I'd argue it does.

I've never seen a crowd as stunned as when Undertaker lost, in sport or in theatre. Nobody gave Lesnar a chance leading into the match, and expected it to be a routine WrestleMania crushing at the hands of Undertaker. When the ref counted the three, there was just silence - I couldn't believe what I was watching. You have to hand it to WWE, as they certainly did the right thing when holding off Lesnar's music for a minute or so after the pinfall.

Hogan's heel turn had a much greater impact on the business, though viewing both events in isolation, I'd say Undertaker's streak ending was easily the more shocking moment.

Gotta be near the top. I genuinely did not think it would ever end. Me and my friend I was watching with were just as speechless as the crowd in attendance.

Just for instant live reaction from people watching. I'd say it ranks up there with Hogan's heel turn and Eddie Guerrero's heel turn against Rey Mysterio. Those are the three instances where the audience was just simply stunned to me.

I don't think it compares with Hogan's heel turn. The fans were shocked for sure, but not to the same extent. The shock went away very quickly when Lesnar pinned Undertaker, whereas with Hogan it made a lasting impression and turned into some major heat.

I think the main difference is the booking and the match that preceded it. When the streak ended, it came out of nowhere and played out in front of a crowd that was already pretty dead. The match had been bad, nobody was expecting anything interesting to happen, so when Lesnar won there was no energy in the crowd.

Wasn't into wrestling when Hogan turned but Undertaker's streak was pure shock. Probably the only time I have been shocked watching wrestling and will remember it for the PTF chat blowing up when it happened. That 2-3 second shock and silence summed up it all up. Heyman/Lesnar sold it well.

I wasn't around to see Hogan's heel turn live, but the end of The Streak is definitely the most shocking thing I've ever seen in wrestling. I believe it took me about a half hour to fully process that it actually happened. The whole atmosphere was just surreal, and impossible to replicate now. I think it would have been less of a shock if the match was great and the crowd was really hot going into that last F5. The way it went down was truly shocking and out of the blue.
