I agree. Technically it's an incredible film, but it's not the greatest war movie. Elem Klimov's Come and See is easily the best. If you think Full Metal jacket was harrowing and emotionally draining then check out that film. Paths of Glory is up there too for the best film dealing with the subject of war among men.

Coppola's only true masterpiece is The Godfather, which is also quite overrated. I'd rate it in my top 100 but definitely within the higher numbers. Despite it not being the greatest movie ever, it's masterpiece status is deserved in my opinion.

Yeah, I did mean Return of the Jedi obviously. Just a brain fart, though the rest of the post makes my opinions pretty clear. Empire Strikes Back was probably the best of the three. The ending probably puts it a little over A New Hope - which I think is underrated by some. I think it hits the fun/serious balance quite nicely for a fantasy film.

The Empire Strikes Back has one of the greatest endings of any movie.

Come and See is brutal. Up there with Tarkovsky in terms of high-end Soviet cinema. Have you seen The Conversation by Coppola?

Awesome, I'm glad you finally saw Come and See. Easily in my top 20 favorites of all time. The Conversation I saw back in my teenage years when I was discovering Coppola, it's a desperate rewatch but I enjoyed it a lot. If you've watched it recently, how would you rate it compared to his others?

Been a while since I've seen The Conversation, too, but I'd say it's one of his better films. Probably his second best behind The Godfather. And yeah, I can't wait to see Come and See again. It's a daring critique on war, which you didn't get a whole lot of during the Cold War.

I agree 100% very few top it. It's so bleak yet somehow leaves you thinking it could get better.

Not to mention the song is probably the most beautiful piece that John Williams has ever written.

I think Part II was much better than the first from almost every aspect. I'd give the first Godfather a 9 out of 10, and the second one a 10 out of 10.

Except Lando is wearing Han's clothes, which is fucking weird.

I swap ratings on the Godfathers but I can respect your opinion. 10/10 for the first and 9/10 for the sequel.

And yes, Lando needs to stop mooching off of Han. Ever notice how just as Han starts to get some pussy in ROTJ, all of a sudden Lando has a co-pilot that looks just like a deformed alien vagina. Fucking Nien Nunb.

I liked Revenge of the Sith :(

Empire Strikes Back is the best movie in the series by far. I also enjoyed Return of the Jedi more than A New Hope.

Empire Strike back is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love how the good guys are constantly getting shit on, and destroyed by the empire. The movie ended without the good guys winning anything. I love it.

Two movies that people seem to really like, I wouldn't know if people consider them classics, but one did win Best Picture at the Academy awards. Any how, the two movies are American Beauty, boring and depressing - not in a profound, thought provoking way. And There's Something About Mary, really insensitive, unfunny and often just stupid.

Hate both of those movies. Just utter crap trying desperately to be meaningful.
