Synopsis revealed for "Avengers: Age of Ultron"

Postby Everlong » Sep 16, '14, 3:05 pm

Marvel Studios presents "Avengers: Age of Ultron," the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.

Marvel's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.

It doesn't really tell us all that much yet, but it's the first official preview. The movie is set to open in May 2015.

I really want them to release the clip they showed at Comic-Con. Haven't seen it and it's meant to be a really good appetite wetter.

This unfortunately does nothing to reassure me that Ultron isn't going to be another really generic villain. I appreciate that in a franchise with so many heroes, the villains aren't going to get as much focus, but in like 10 movies, they've yet to run a compelling villain. Ultron seems like he could be worse than most.

On the other hand, this synopsis did give me one extra reason to watch the film: Paul Bettany!

Was Spider Man ever an Avenger? Can someone more familiar with the comics let me know?

Just realized it's kind of weird that he's never been in the Avengers movies, I know he has his own movies, but so do the others. Speaking as a casual comic fan, I'd like to see him in there mixing it up with the rest.

Is DC ever going to do a Justice League movie? Seems like a natural fit with the success of the Avengers films.

He was at one point. But he can't be in the Avengers movies, because another company has the movie rights to Spiderman. People speculate that's why they rebooted the Spiderman series so quickly: they wanted to make sure that they kept the rights.

For the same reason, you won't see the Fantastic Four or the X-Men (with the exception of Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch, who are full members of both franchises and therefore fall into more complicated territory) in Avengers either.

Yes, he was in the Ultimate Avengers. He'll never be a part of these movies though, because all Spiderman movie rights are owned by Sony, not Disney.

I think he probably will have been an Avenger at some stage, it'd be weirder if he hadn't featured in one of the comics at some stage.

The reason Spider-Man isn't involved with the Avengers film franchise is because Marvel don't own the rights to the Spidey films, Sony do. That's why the X-Men can't show up either, because Fox own the rights to those films.

I actually like that there are some properties that are separate from the Marvel smorgasboard - it has its place, but I don't want all superhero movies to be the same brand. And I definitely don't want Spiderman getting all *stop the world from exploding!*. I prefer the slightly smaller, more personal stories for Spidey. This could very well just be me, though.

The sequel to Man of Steel looks like it's going to be a proto version of this - there'll be Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman at least. They could very easily branch it off after that (assuming it does well).

I just wouldn't want Spiderman in the Avengers cus I think he sucks :P But to each his own.

I know for sure there are plans for a DC Justice League movie in the works, there've been plenty of reports about it. It's just a matter of when.

Blasphemy. Spiderman is far more compelling, interesting and easy to relate to than any of the regular Avengers cast.

Not all of his movies have been great, but you could say that about any major superhero at this point. But the character at its best is among the best superheroes out there. I agree with @Kirbi, that it's the more personal nature of his stories that often makes him work best as a character. A lot of the other heroes spend their time fighting alien hordes and trying to stop the world from ending, but Spiderman is more grounded in reality. He's just a guy who's trying to help people. I find that far more interesting.

To each their own though, it's a fair comment. Just had to get my two cents in.

I have to say that I'm happy Spiderman is being kept separate from the Avengers, because we're already seeing enough of our heroes being done in that style. Avengers films are all done in a particular way - they have a set format that I've been over exposed to in the last few years. Their movies hit the same beats, have the same strengths and weaknesses ... and I don't need more of the same.

My biggest problem with the Avengers films is that they tend to be overly flashy but without much substance. Fun (usually) but mostly shallow films. That's not what I want from Spiderman in particular. He needs a more personal touch.

I actually think all of the Spiderman movies have been bad. You want to talk about lackluster villains, you can't look further than Spiderman who has had the worst run of bad guys in the movies.

I very much agree with Hanley, Spidey films have a completely different feel to them. As cool as the idea is of having Spidey and the Avengers merge, IMO they should stay seperate, and will stay seperate until they buy the rights off Sony

Re: Synopsis revealed for "Avengers: Age of Ultron"

It seems the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be blown wide open after this movie, a lot of big characters going to be coming out of the woodwork and there'll probably be seeds sewn for the movies to come, especially Ant-Man a couple of months later considering how that ties in with Ultron.

It's confusing that Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver are there (being Magneto's kids) but they'll probably just strip them of their backstory and call them something other than mutants. It's going to be really cool seeing the Vision, especially considering the casting of Paul Bettany and all that implies.

Spiderman doesn't inherently suck by any means, I actually really like him but the current movies certainly do suck in my opinion. As far as him and the Avengers even when he's not a member he usually just hangs out and wisecracks when shit's going down.

It seems like they're actually going to have Stark be the one who creates Ultron rather than Hank Pym, which I think would be a mistake, but we'll see what happens. It would be a really good way to tie in Ant-Man, though.

Well it says he's jump starting a dormant peacekeeping program, it could be that the original design was by Hank Pym?

I think it's silly that Spiderman can't appear in an Avengers movie. You would think that both companies could come to some sort of agreement to have him appear. It could only lead to more money for both of them.

Quicksilver is gonna be a more confusing one though. Two different actors are playing in two different franchises released withing the same time period. Seems odd to me.
