Daily Mail also reported that Reddit users actively tried to hide the hacker's identity, which is completely bollocks. First of all, they actively exposed the guy who's networks and homegroups etc. were shown in screenshots, who later claimed he wasn't the hacker.
And second of all, posts were found on 4chan by redditors, were it is believed the original hacker/hackers weren't involved in this leak at all, but rather that it came from a member of a trading ring who simply leaked what he had in the hope of leveraging money out of people for more (Which he may or may not have had). Also a possible reason why the supposed 100 celebrity large collection wasn't leaked on a larger scale.
This took me all of five minutes to dig out. It's shocking to me that people employed within the news media couldn't find this out themselves. Even less excuse for inaccurate journalism.
Also I find it highly hypocritical, that in almost all of the news reports I've read about this story, they all seem to take the holier than thou approach, telling people not to look at the pictures, whilst simultaneously pointing in big red letters where to go to find them.
