September 2014 Football/Fútbol Discussion: The Aftermath of the Summer Transfer Window Edition

Postby AkydefGoldberg » Sep 01, '14, 1:39 pm

So, a new month, new thread.

Transfer window winding down with Radamel Falcao set to join Manchester United on loan.

Man United's transfer dealings, nicely summed up by Vincent Kennedy McMahon:

Image

Arsenal linked with Welbeck but club deny any deal agreed or that he's having a medical

And Tom Cleverley not pissing off and seems content to stick it out for a year. Fine Cleviesta, but enjoy the reserves if you do.

^^ Yet they fail to mention that Podolski, Alexis and Theo (when he returns, next month) can also play striker. Just saying.

They can, but they won't. Walcott will be used on the wings, same with Sanchez. You know this.

5 games in, 1 point to show.... club captain Jay Spearing and 6 other players have headed out to Ibiza instead of using this international break to try and fix the problems.... where is manager Dougie Freedman you ask... in scotland.. assisting with the scotland under 19's... this football club is a fucking joke, the sooner we go bankrupt and liquidate the better, complete and utter embarrassment the lot of them

Wow, Jay Spearing is club captain?!

Sad if true, Bolton seemed a modicum of calmness when they were in the PL.

During his loan spell last season he was nothing short of fantastic and showed he was a leader, now he is showing his true colors... it's frustrating, yesterday I sat and watched multiple players like Glenn Murray who we've been linked with multiple times this window go off to Reading instead.... Jordan Ibe was an apparently sure thing to join on loan... ends up at derby I need had a full scale heart attack when I saw Luciano Becchio join Rotherham.

Now we'll be scraping the barrel once again in the loan market and like last season we'll end up with another player like Lukas Jutkiewicz and we'll be flying for the final 10 games when we have nothing left to play for but this seasons Jutkiewicz is the reason we've looked good and this seasons Jutkiewicz like the real Lukas Jutkiewicz will fall in love with the club, the fans will fall in love with him and then we'll let some other fucking team sign him without even fucking trying and we'll end up with Beckford again as a our #1 striker.....

Wayne Rooney very rarely plays up front these days, yet he's on there.

Yes he does, haha. Rooney tends to have a free role, but he almost always plays as a forward, up front, through the middle. Neither Sanchez or Walcott play this role for Arsenal.

I know you're pissed off at Arsenal's inferior strikeforce when compared to the other top teams (let's admit it, is is inferior) but let's be honest here.

Arsenal must be desperate for strikers to sign Danny Welbeck.

Considering they were linked with - but it was complete BS - former Birmingham striker Nicola Zigic, Welbeck is a vast improvement. I fear he'll come good there at the Gunners.

Welbeck was a good signing and if they play him up top rather than out wide, he'll do well for Arsenal.

Newcastle could begin to struggle. Siem De Jong is injured until 2015, which means their strikeforce consists of Papiss Cisse (managed 2 goals last season, currently injured) Ayoze Perez (18 years old, untested) Remy Cabella (had a shocking start to the season) and Sammy Ameobi (lol). They would've had Ben Arfa, but they sent him to Hull. They might have to play their wingers up front.

Colback, Tiote and Santon are injured too. Pressure's on Pardew, should've reinforced the attack over the summer.

Also, Arsenal are reportedly paying Danny Welbeck £105,000 per week. Good lord.

United have been paying Ashley Young £120,000 a week. Hence why we can't shift him but tbf, adjusted modestly to wing back role. Welbeck will be worth that money though.

Bit late, but I wanna add to the Arsenal striker options debate. As Enygma stated, Podolski, Walcott and Sanchez can all play up front. And as Porkchop stated, they won't. But it states striker options. Which means they have the optioned to play them up front if they need to.

It doesn't state striker options, it states their first-choice three strikers. If each of those teams played a 4-3-3, the guys on that list are the guys who would be leading the line.

Giroud, Sanogo and Welbeck are Arsenal's top three, first-choice strikers. Why would they put guys like Walcott on the list when he's used on the wing, instead of Sanogo and Welbeck, who will be used as strikers? It would make no sense. The list is about strikers. Not "Here are all the players in each team who can possibly play as a striker, if needs be".

Look, I know you guys are disappointed in Arsenal's strikeforce, it's clear to see. Just accept that it's a bad lineup.

I'm not denying we have the weakest line up out of all the top teams. I'm just saying we have other players who can play up front.
