What is your current life plan for the next couple of years?

Postby Camstud » Jun 09, '14, 2:05 pm

I'm currently packing up my room as I prepare to leave University having just completed my third and final year. I'm heading back home to Birmingham for about 6 months. Then me and my partner are moving to Derby or Nottingham (please not Derby) and getting a flat together while she does a Masters in Nursing for two years so I'll try find some work and figure out what I really want to do. So my next couple of years are sorted, but overall I'm still pretty clueless. I'm only 20 though so I still have a bit of time, don't want to rush into anything.

How about you guys? What's your plan for the next couple of years? Both career and social-wise.

I'm hoping to get a new job (hearing back about it tomorrow actually). I'm hoping that Kirbi gets the new job that she surely deserves also. And the main thing I plan to do within the next 2 years is get married. Other than that, nothing much is planned. We'll likely be staying in the house we're in now for at least another year. And I'm going to try and spend a lot of time with family, cos my Dad may not have a lot of time left.

Sorry to hear that mate. Sounds like you have your priorities in order though, which is good.

Good luck with the new job, what is it out of interest?

It's a bit complicated. I work in a large international insurance company, but I'm employed by an outsource company. I got a bit of a promotion with them back in February (became liaison between the outsource company and the insurance company). But now the insurance company is looking to bring some of their better outsourced employees in-house. The long term opportunities would be better, the benefits would be better and it'd just be a better spot overall. But I would ultimately be working in the same place.

Just to hold onto my job but that's fixed until April next year so hopefully I can keep on for another year but if not, I'll have gained experience in admin which I didn't have before so should be in good stead going forward no matter what happens.

I'd like to think I'll have an idea of which lady I'll be getting married to although not a frigging clue atm. Undecided, confused about the whole thing. Trying to play it cool.

And who knows, maybe I will do what I've been saying since the release of the PS3 and that is upgrade my PS2 to next-gen!

Well I don't plan on making a big career transition any time soon; I basically just want to continue seeing my company grow and my position improve as a result.

The biggest thing by far is that I will likely be engaged by the end of the year, so that'll be a big life change.

Finish writing book. Make available as an ebook, sell at least 100 copies.

Get a promotion - Up for one right now that would move me two positions and three pay grades but being a government job I don't just get it, I have to apply for it like a new job and there are 2 others also applying for same position. Fingers crossed.

Finish getting my finances corrected from 4+ years of unemployment - almost there but we still live very tight and don't have a single dime after paying off bills every month.

Get healthier - I quite drinking for the most park, want to quite smoking. Got issues with neck/back that have been treated for years with pills that I want corrected. Got dental issues from a combination of prior excessive drug use as a teen, bad genetics, years of smoking and just plain not taking care of them like I should have. Got great medical insurance now but my dental plan sucks just like any other dental plan so its going to be a here and there deal when money is available.

Most importantly, I want to improve the lives of my wife and child. Because our finances have sucked for the last 6 years I feel like I have been a sub par father/husband when it comes to birthday/Christmas/anniversary. I hope to be able to provide more than food/shelter to my family, a vacation or new car or something to fill the void I feel like I have created.

It'll be coming up on a year this summer, so by the time I propose it'll be like 16/17 months. Not a huge length of time, but when you know you know, and there's really no point in holding off too much longer. Just saving up money at this point.

Westcoast good luck with that mate, sounds like you know what you need to do and you're well on your way to doing it. Important thing to remember is that if ir doesn't quite go to plan then don't get too down on it man, just keep on going and you'll get another chance. But fingers crossed for you.

Also Tim yeah that's fair enough. Some people never ger engaged, some people get engaged after a couple of months. If you can tell, you can tell. So good luck with that too.

I find it fascinating what you're all up to IRL, sometimes I forget we all have a life outside of PTF haha.

Promotion achieved! :tim

I'm currently lying in bed barely able to move after my injury yesterday, so it's nice to get a little good news. It's perked me up quite a bit.

I love the company I work for, but not necessarily the job I'm currently doing. I'd like to move into a position at head office and get involved with store refits. The logistics of it all fascinates me. If that isn't an option, I'll probably opt into management and end up with a small store in the next couple of years. Need to get a driving license before that, though.
