HUGE turn on Raw!

Postby Str8Shooter » Jun 02, '14, 9:13 pm

So The Shield is no more. Seth Rollins is the chosen one to break up The Shield and join up with Trips and Orton, attacking Reigns and Ambrose with a chair. Quite a segment.

What's everyone's thoughts?

This is huge for Rollins. You have to think Triple H probably handpicked him over Ambrose to be the one that turned heel and joined up with Evolution. This is a huge opportunity for him to rise up the card, I'm excited to see how he does.

What does The Shield do now that they're outnumbered? Could we see them recruit a new Shield member?

Unless it's money/title matches, I don't understand it. Why join up with the team who you just beat. If you're gonna do it, why not do it at the PPV instead of beating the guys you were about to join forces with? WWE logic I guess. LOL

Theoretically it's not that hard to understand.

Trips comes to Rollins and tells him he needs to worry about himself and his career, The Shield can't last forever. He makes him promises of money, fame, fortune, Championships. Much better to have the boss on your side than against you.

it was a good shocker and will jump start the feud back to being new and fresh. I don't know if it was time to break up the shield though. those three guys are whats carrying raw right now and although next week should get some decent ratings because of this I kinda feel like it will hurt them in the long run.

now if they keep it going with the surprises and bring someone else in to help or join the shield my thoughts might change. as long as that person is not batista with some lame story about how he wants to get back at HHH or Cena because he is Cena and can do anything

Batista is likely gone for at least a couple months promoting his movie, so he seems done for now.

Obviously Reigns and Ambrose will want revenge, and Rollins is allied with Trips and Orton. The way I see they almost have to have The Shield recruit someone new to even the odds. It could actually be a big time push for someone from NXT to come up and join them, instant credibility in a hot feud.

The way I see it, The Shield have done pretty much all they can do as a unit. There are no more 3 man teams for them to face that hasn't been done. It seems as good a time as any to do the split.

Yup, I'm thinking Sami Zayn is called up from NXT to help out Ambrose and Reigns. Not sure he'd be the best fit but for the matches alone it'd be worth it.
Neville would probably fit better, plus Ambrose's mic skills would get him over much faster than if he was called up alone, but he's still NXT champ so I doubt he'd come up right now.

I see your point and it is logical, but this is wwe and logic has not been a part of their booking for decades. I guess after the last couple months of shoty booking and such I am just assuming they are gonna fuck this up somehow

It sucks that the Shield broke up, but I did really like how the turn was done. This opens up the feud to new possibilities. Rollins can face Ambrose at Summerslam when Reigns faces HHH and I for one would love to see Ambrose vs Rollins. If they promote Zayn it would make sense for him to replace Rollins. He would fill the natural babyface void that Rollins is giving up and he has a similar fast pace wrestling style. Also Rollins vs Zayn would just be incredible.

It doesn't seem logical for Rollins to join Evolution unless Triple H promised him a title shot or something. Why join a team you just beat twice? Hopefully they explain it instead of just saying "it's Triple H". Evolution actually makes sense as a group now, with Rollins being the future, Orton the present, Triple H the past, but the ship jumping would have made a lot more sense if Evolution would have won one of the two battles. As for who's joining the Shield, I hope no one does. Triple H doesn't need to wrestle anymore and it should just be Orton and Rollins vs Reigns and Ambrose in singles feuds.

Amazing beginning and end to an all around disappointing show. What a moment for Rollins, this is huge!

Shit man that was crushing, after all that talk of them being brothers just a few minutes beforehand. It should be pretty damn interesting to see where this goes.

It was a good segment but it really doesn't make much, if any, sense at all.

The Shield just swept Evolution at Payback and beat them convincingly as Extreme Rules. It makes no sense for Seth Rollins to join Evolution. But I will wait to hear the explanation next week. Will be interesting what convinced or led to Rollins deciding to leave.

I think we should wait until next week to talk about how much sense it makes. There a re a lot of unanswered questions right now, which I am betting will be answered next week. This is a huge shock and I didn't see it happening. There was really no where else the story could go and this has brought fresh life into the feud. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY KING ROLLINS? WHYYYYYYYYYYY?!

As good as it is that Rollins has been chosen to align with Evolution (a huge nod of confidence for him) I can't help but feel fucking gutted - I never wanted a The Shield to split and if one of them was to turn heel it should have been Ambrose. King Rollins works so much better as a face, his in-ring style is tailor made to provoke cheers whereas Ambrose is the most natural heel of the three. :( :( :(

So I'll call it: Ambrose will turn heel and align with Evolution at some point in the future too, leaving Reigns all alone to begin his monster solo push.

Same, I don't really understand the move so far but I'll wait for an explanation before I fully judge it.

Re: HUGE turn on Raw!

Postby ShaneOfan » Jun 03, '14, 7:46 am

Of all of the nights to say "fuck it I'm tired and don't feel good, it's not like anything will happen anyway" I picked last night...

Sort of makes sense to me. Without a title between them, what did the Shield have going forward? The closest one to WWE title ready is Ambrose and while they may put it on him I don't see that happening yet. Still a little to soon I think. With Batista gone, they can't feud with a nonexistent Evolution. They've done and redone the Wyatt's. And even if they hadn't the Wyatt's were going for the tag titles. There was really nowhere else to go at this point other then a split.

Of the three Rollins makes the most sense to turn. I'd say Ambrose is the closest to being a main event player on his own right now. So he doesn't really need Evolution (or Reigns anymore) He will be fine on his own. They are to high on Reigns to turn him heel, plus as much as I like the guy he isn't ready to be THE guy yet anyway and I fear he will fall into the same hole as Dolph Ziggler, John Morrison, Shelton benjamin and the like. Where they had all of the things they needed but were lacking that ONE thing and will never be anything more then a great upper midcard guy who was always on the cusp of being more. I hope I am wrong but I just have that feeling.

But Rollins has the potential to be great and a stint with Evolution can only help him. Right now he is a follower and that's the role he should be in. I get that there "was no leader" of the SHIELD but that said, Ambrose was the leader of the SHIELD. Rollins is popular on the internet but of the three he was the least popular on TV. He could very easily get lost in the shuffle. But with Evolution he can be built. Say what you want about HHH burying this guy or that, when HHH wants to make you a star, he WILL make you a star.

Going forward he could be in the MITB(his "reward" for turning on SHIELD) and even win the belt(s) at it. Then D-Bry can come back and try to get it back but they can do one more 3v3 match to end it all with HHH, Orton, and Rollins losing to Bryan, Reigns, and Ambrose. Breaks Evolution up afterwords and Ambrose and Reigns can go their separate ways. Do I think Rollins is ready for the belts? Not really but if anyone can get you there it's HHH. Plus you could give him a short reign before giving the belt(s) back to Bryan or even giving them to Ambrose.

They made the move because Reigns is the next big face and everyone expected Ambrose. I can't see Ambrose joining Evolution but I do think he will split with Reigns and there will be a triple threat at SummerSlam. Triple H probably hand chose Rollins, I mean he did make him the first NXT champ. And they probably have a good storyline reasoning for this lined up. I doubt Triple H would let Vince and creative fuck this up.

Re: HUGE turn on Raw!

I do hope that they come up with a proper justification for it, because Rollins belonged to the superior group as it was, so there's a limited amount to be gained from jumping ship to a (recently weakened) inferior team. It could be something as simple as Triple H throwing money at him, but they need to make it explicit. You could use Rollins own insecurities as motivation too - he could talk about being the best wrestler of the Shield but being treated as less of a star than the others.

The turn worries me a little, as they had a good thing going with the Shield and I think it might have been too soon to turn one of them heel, particularly given how low WWE is on quality faces at the moment. And I'm afraid that one or all of them could end up getting lost in the shuffle if WWE doesn't book things carefully from now (and when do they ever book things carefully).

At the same time, it does seem to demonstrate a certain amount of confidence in Rollins and it is at least a development to one of their current stories. They have a habit of just treading water when it comes to story progression - starting a story and then dragging it out with no progression until it finally ends. Cena v Wyatt is a prime example of that. At least this move changes things up and keeps things interesting.

So I am interested in what happens next, but a little wary also. The Shield have been the one thing that WWE has consistently gotten right for the last couple of years. They've been kept looking strong ever since their debut, not falling victim to the typical stop-start pushes that WWE is so fond of. I just hope that they keep pushing these guys as consistently now that they're no longer together.

Ambrose would have been a more natural heel turn but Rollins is seen as the cooler dude so he might buy into the Evolution ethos (girls, money, power) more nicely than an aggressive, spooky heel in Ambrose.

I think they'll have 3 on 2 Evolution vs. Shield rather than have someone come up to even things out. It creates sympathy for the Shield who'll get beaten up and out-numbered and thus allowing the ending which would Reigns/Ambrose overcoming them in the end.
