Who is one political figure you hold in high regard?

Postby Matteo » May 03, '14, 2:12 am

It comes as no surprise that a lot of political figures are notoriously unpopular, and rightfully so, too. History has been riddled with despotic tyrants and sociopaths. Many of them are just downright venal and cupid, too. Still, there have been a lot of influential political figures in history. Who is one or who are some you hold in high regard?

Robert F. Kennedy would be one of mine. He played an incremental role during the Cuban Missile Crisis and just did not conform to the status-quo at the time. They were many unstable men in government during the JFK administration - many of which who would go to zealous lengths to get what they wanted. Kennedy spent a lot of his time 'fighting them off', which was imperative considering what was happening in the world at the time.

Another would be Voltaire, whose political writings helped shaped post-revolution France.

Bobby Kennedy by far. He was a great man even with his flaws. I wrote a paper for one of my history classes in college detailing an alternate history where he was shot at but never killed.

I'd say for Imran Khan. A former well-known international cricketer turned politician in Pakistan who has been a politician over for a decade and strived to succeed in a country where corruption rules. Like his principles and policies.

Not many politicians in the UK I like. If I had to choose, I'd say George Galloway but that 'like' for him is very loose as I like his stances against war hungry politicians like Blair but not so liking his lack of constituency work.

Haha, I wrote that in preparation that you'd "like" it. Ya know, he's one of the politicians in the UK who speaks openly and strongly against Israeli behaviour against the Palestinians (although Bradford's MP David Ward is also to be noted for speaking out) but at times, doesn't help the cause so my liking of him was a very LOOSE one but I'm not a big fan of his anymore. Namely because he's hardly in his constituency. I actually met him once in Bradford (shock, horror!).

George Galloway would be the answer to which political figure I despise the most.

He openly supported Saddam Hussein in addition to being a noted close friend of Saddam's right hand man and known murderer Tariq Aziz. He was once quoted as saying that the disappearance of the soviet union was the biggest catastrophe in his life. He is without any doubt the most right wing scumbag of a politician active today and cares more about his own personal CV and notoriety than that of the city he's supposed to help run (mine, coincidentally)

After (amazingly, though sadly not surprisingly) winning a seat to become the MP for Bradford West he took to Twitter to thank the people for his 'Blackburn' triumph. Proof, as if more were needed, that he's a scumbag looking out for himself. I hate the fact his name is associated with my town.

Don't even get me started on the whole 'Big Brother' incident where he embarrassed himself pretending to be a cat.

He won THAT seat by getting the majority Pakistani vote and getting votes on promises on foreign policy who voted for him blindly yet not taking into consideration what he was actually going to do for them in every-day life issues. Sad.

He is not with out his flaws. Their are reports he beat his wife. He also was somewhat racist and didn't exactly hate Hitler.
