To be honest, I'm not looking forward to a single movie this summer aside from Richard Linklater's epic Boyhood ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyhood_(film) ), which was twelve years in the making and is finally completed. I just scanned through the upcoming releases on imdb to be sure that I wasn't missing anything. Most of my favorite filmmakers have already released their respective pictures, the Coen's, Lars von Trier, Spike Jonze and Wes Anderson all had some great works to show us recently.

Terrence Malick has three films in post-production, but there's no word to when they're going to be released. PT Anderson's new movie is also in post, but probably won't be out until next year.

Not necessarily looking forward to it, but I will see Godzilla, because I'm a huge fan of the old Toho monster movies.

I'm not expecting a masterpiece out of Godzilla by any means, but it should at least be a fun popcorn flick for me to see with some of the guys. So that'll be fun.

Otherwise, this seems like sort of a down summer for movies. As far as I can recall, there aren't really any upcoming blockbusters that sound interesting. I'm definitely looking forward to Interstellar, but that's not until November or December.

Godzilla, for sure. Those old Toho movies were a huge part of my childhood, and I've been waiting a long time for someone to right the unspeakable wrong that was committed in the late 90's. I'm by no means a movie buff, so this is the first time in years that I'm looking forward to one coming out so much.

Now, my focus can shift completely to waiting for a Jaws remake!

Yeah, I'd say Godzilla as well. Also, the new Planet of the Apes movie is out this year I believe. Also, 22 Jump Street.

Most of the big releases seem kinda meh to me, to be honest. I don't know what trailer everyone else is watching but the one I saw made it look super generic. Doesn't mean it will be by any means, but I'm just not optimistic. And it's not a genre I'm super interested in regardless.

I already saw Amazing Spiderman 2, which I really enjoyed. There was a time that I was looking forward to the sequel to X-Men First Class, but the movie we're getting looks very problematic. I'm probably not going to bother seeing it in the cinema, everything that I've heard about it so far has painted it in a bad light.

The summer release I'm most looking forward to is 'The Fault in Our Stars'. It was an amazing novel (one of my favourites) and it has the potential to be a really good movie. I really hope they pull it off.

There have actually been a lot of really good movies released so far this year, but the summer lineup just doesn't seem that impressive to me. At least in terms of the massive releases that are getting a lot of advertising. I'm sure there'll be a few gems in there though.

This may refer to Interstellar, methinks.

Damn, I forgot to name the film I was talking about. :lol I was actually referring to Godzilla.

Interstellar is a weird one. The director is pretty good and the cast looks good, but the trailer and concept and everything about the film at this point sounds so vague that it's impossible for me to get excited about it. I saw the trailer for it in the cinema today and after it ended, I felt like I knew less about the film than I had before.

^I'm just banking on Interstellar being awesome because of the director's track record. I'm sure we'll get a better idea of it once they release actual trailers rather than just the teaser.

Interstellar is going to be awesome because Chris Nolan is awesome and he is the best director working today. Call me a fan boy all you want. You know all know it's true. His movies are awesome. If anyone doesn't like his movies, they are stupid and can suck my hairy misshapen balls. There I said it.

^^ I like most of Nolan's stuff, but he's recently stamped his name on a couple of pretty badly received films (Man of Steel, Transcendence). And the last film that he directed (The Dark Knight Rises) was his worst effort as director and a pretty disappointing movie overall. So at this particular point, I'm not going to be able to get excited about a film just because he's involved. I need something to sell me on the concept.

To be fair, you're in the major minority of people who didn't like TDKR, and he wasn't the director for Man of Steel or Transcendence so it's hard to compare.

Granted, TDKR was the weakest of the trilogy, but I still enjoyed it.

I definitely wouldn't go so far as to say he's the best director working today, especially with people like the Coens and Wes Anderson doing their thang, but I would say that every movie he's directed has been no worse than very good. He's remarkably consistent.

I think he needs to be able to produce some deeper scripts and write some better female parts to truly have a shot at being considered the best, but I"d rather watch a Nolan movie than a movie by anyone else these days.

It's not that I outright disliked it, I just found it disappointing. And I'm not in the "major minority" in that regard, it's a pretty popular opinion that its the worst of the trilogy and has a lot of pretty obvious problem areas. It was bloated, occasionally a bit silly, and there are a number of major plot holes that have been doing the rounds on the internet.

Most people seemed to at least like the film, but I don't think it's unfair to say it's his worst effort as director. I'd also say that a director that made some of the decisions that he did in that film cannot be exempt from criticism. I'm actually a Nolan fan for the most part, but he's definitely not without his faults.
