South Park appreciation thread

Postby Viazon » Oct 11, '13, 4:37 pm

I have seen adverts for the new season of South Park, which has just started airing. I noticed that this is the seventeenth season. SEVENTEENTH!! That's insane. How many shows these days last that long? I remember when it aired back n 1997. God, saying that makes me feel old. I was 11 at the time. Man, parents and teachers hated us watching that show.

I grew out of it it my teen years but after watching a few episodes again as an adult, I realised just how funny it was and I was able to appreciate it more.

So, in honour of the 17th season of South Park, I thought I would make this thread. Who here watches South Park? Who is your favourite character? Do you have a favourite episode? My character by far is Randy and most of my favourite episodes usually are the ones that center around him.

Good timing. I'm in the process of catching up with South Park. I reckon I stopped watching at about season 12 or 13 for no good reason at all. I'm about half way through season 15 now.

The best episode I've seen recently was the one where Cartman confuses the classes height difference with their penis sizes. " Did they measure from the shaft or the balls" - Randy Marsh.

Aye South Park is good, feels like they've kind of been phoning it in in recent years but at it's best it's probably my favourite animated show.

Anything to do with Randy is a good thing.

While on the topic, I found this picture. One of my favourite South Park moments ever. Classic Randy.

I'm definitely a huge fan, but so far a bit "meh" on this season. I have watched BASEketball at least three times a year since its 98 release. I love Orgasmo, also. I wish Trey and Matt did more films, they, to me, are like the new Steve Martin and Chevv Chase. They are waaaaaaaay too talented to hide off-screen.

Randy is bt far the best char, and I'll always love Cartman for the fact that I can perfectly do his voice and I was named Cartman as my class clown 2003 mascot. :P

They have a large handful of fantastic episodes, and when on song, can rival golden-era Simpsons in terms of writing and satire.

It's never been all that consistent. It has some of the funniest and most clever comedy episodes that I've seen from an animated show and some pointless tripe. For a show that tries to be smart, it really does utilize gross out humour more than it should also. But I'm never a fan of that in any show - to me it's the lowest form of comedy.

I think it suffers from maybe going too long and now they're just churning stuff out. Some of it will still be good, but the longer it goes the more duds are going to be mixed in with the rest. Still overall this would be one of the animated shows I like most.
