I was sad to see Bolton go down - we always got 6 pts against them, same with Wigan barring the odd win they got lol but Bolton are a good club. Isn't Dougie Freedman managing them still? He was under pressure at the start of the season I remember?

Yeah Dougie is still there, really getting on every bodies nerves atm, even when we lose he plays the "we deserved more" but nothing ever changes and we're just falling

That's why teams in the PL, more so than ever, are keen to avoid the drop. Sunderland, Fulham, West Brom - all changed managers as they fear going down and not coming back. You get parachute payments but unless you're QPR with a decent enough squad to try and come back up - it's difficult. Clubs have to sell players which means they can't bring in adequate replacements.

Theo Walcott is looking really dangerous here, not a bad option to lead the line when Giroud wants a rest imo.

I have said it before. Wenger should play him up front. The guy can score goals and that's where he wants to play anyway. And then, instead of buying another striker in the transfer market, he should look for a proper right winger, one who has that as his natural position.

Didn't realise David Wash N'Gog was still playing for them?

Villa knocked out by Sheffield United - Lambert could be abit under pressure now - results have to improve but his message prior to this was pretty much - "We don't give a fuck about the FA Cup, league is what matters" which might be true also of other managers but you don't say it out loud. That permeated to the players so inevitable they would lose.

In response to that, Lambert seemed to care last year when Villa were in the semi's of the League Cup, didn't he?

Very valid point. But he was moulding those young players so it was convenient for him to praise it as he could always it was good experience for the players blah blah.

I do admire what he's doing at Villa but think his comments were wrong to say out loud. But fact is, he's talking of buying experienced players if he can in this month because tbh, his side need some. Petrov loss was massive.

Another depressing day as a Villa fan. At least we're performing better in the league though, Benteke looks like he'll start scoring again soon too.

That being said, Libor Kozak broke his leg in training today. He's out for the rest of the season. Fucking great.

What's happened to Weimann? Doesn't seem to play these days as regularly - was impressed by him last season.

Lewandowski joining Bayern?!

Man, what a shock! I never that coming!!

Intrigued by how Pep wll integrate him into squad considering his false nine position he likes so maybe it's an evolution of his coaching to have a recognised striker. Feel for Dortmund - lost Gotze but bagged some money for him. Could have done same with Lewandowski but on principle, made him see out his contract.

Double post, but whatever - I want Randy Lerner, and also probably Paul Lambert out at the end of the season unless things improve.

Lambert's signings, for the most part, have been below average at best. I'm not exaggerating when I say this: Tonev is the worst midfielder I've seen in a Villa shirt (and I remember Djemba Djemba), Bowery is the worst striker I've seen in a Villa shirt and Bennett is the worst left back I've seen in a Villa shirt. El Ahmadi is below average, and Sylla is below average. Benteke has been a great signing, just going through a slump of late. Okore also looked good until his injury. His other signings have been quite average. Westwood, Kozak, Lowton, Luna, Bacuna, and Helenius are okay. He's signed a ton of players, but very few of them have been worth writing home about. He's just cluttered up the squad with poor/average players, and has provided very little quality to the team.

The problem of bad signings is also the fault of Randy Lerner. He doesn't seem to realise that running a football club costs money. He sold Cleveland Browns for an absolute fortune (in excess of a billion dollars) but won't invest any of it in Villa, despite us flirting with relegation for the past few seasons. Hiring McLeish as manager just goes to show he has no idea what he's doing. Now he wants Lambert to spend peanuts on players and somehow progress up the league, in this day and age?

Villa are playing some of the worst football in the league - it's bordering on the kind of football we played during the McLeish era. Lambert just wants the team to lump the ball to Benteke and hope for the best, as we have no decent attacking midfidler to create chances. Our only attacking midfielders are Tonev and Albrighton, with a combined 0 assists and 0 goals between them.

The team have just recovered from a 4 game losing streak and are getting booed most games. I'm pretty sure we'll stay up this season but it's a depressing time to be a Villa fan. Things need to change.

To lighten up the mood, check out the most bizarre red card I've ever seen in my life (old video, but still) http://www.soccerclips.net/videos/aston ... d-red-card

Money plays a factor but apparently Madrid made a bid that was OK for Dortmund but he refused. TBH, any player would consider Bayern especially with Guardiola at the helm. They're coasting to a league title whilst hot favourites to retain the CL crown.
