The Arizona Cardinals

Postby DeadpoolAlpha » Dec 27, '13, 3:02 am

I don't post this to have any real meaningful discussion, just so say how incredibly proud I am of this team. I am originally from Phoenix. My grandparents live a very short drive away from UoP Stadium. I've been a Cardinals fan for as long as I've known what Football was. I've been with them through everything. Most recently, I've been with them for their near triumph at the Super Bowl and their dismal returns the next few years. With the recent staff changes and YET ANOTHER QB switch (Carson Palmer, I'll get to in a minute), I've seen an almost brand new team. We have a (very) slim chance of making it to the playoffs this year (regardless, I'm hoping that we can beat the 49ers at our house next week to give us 11 regular season wins for the first time since '88), but if we don't I stand so tall knowing that I've gotten to see my support pay off this year.

For fuck's sake, we beat the Seahawks at CenturyLink and ended a 15 (?) game streak at home. That's one of the two hottest teams in the NFL. It was just an astounding game to watch and I'm constantly entertained by their games, win or lose.

Carson, who I had my reservations about going into the season. He's done a little bad, but he's also done a lot of good. For every folly he may have committed, he's also helped lead the team to 10 wins and is probably the best QB we've had since Warner left. I'm always impressed by Fitzgerald. I think Michael Floyd is wonderful. Jay Feely is one of the best kickers in the league. I think we have one of the best defenses in the league. I think Arians is great. If not this year, I feel like the Cardinals could have their year next season. The team has always been one of those teams that have a lot of the puzzle pieces, but just didn't have the right person to put it together. If they tighten up the offense and really push that D further, I think Arians and the coaching staff could whip them into a force to be reckoned with.

Incredible job by them and I said all along last off-season that if I were an owner/GM looking for a head coach that the first candidate I would have called would be Bruce Arians for what he did with the Colts last year and his record as an offensive coach overall. The guy can coach and knows what he's doing. I also said Chip Kelly would be the last guy I called, but I guess 1 out of 2 ain't bad.

I can't believe the Cardinals have won ten games, that's nuts. They could win 11 and fail to make the playoffs, that's almost unheard of. This is a team that's been vastly underrated on defense for a couple years - they just needed an NFL caliber quarterback to get back to respectability. While I don't think Carson Palmer is anything great any more, he's at least done well enough to give them a fighting chance every week. It's just a shame that they have to be in what's suddenly become the league's best division.

One of my friends made a joke with me a few months ago that Jamarcus Russell would have been a good QB for our play style. Maybe it's true. Who knows. :lol

I think we do need someone better. I like Palmer and he's been a part of those 10 wins, but he's at a point in his career where it's "old dog, new tricks." There's a disconnect. I mean...I'm super proud of that Seahawks win, and he threw that beautiful pass to Floyd...but he also threw 4 interceptions. That was tied for his record worst this season (I believe). He's just so incredibly inconsistent. AND living in an area with Bengals fans, I CONSTANTLY hear about how inconsistent he was...and still is.

And yeah. The Saints have to lose at home to the Bucs for us to get in with 11. We could have done it if the 49ers lost on Monday, but dat interception at the end tho...

Fortunately this is a fairly deep draft for QBs, at least in comparison to most recent years (other than 2012, that year was nuts). I think the Cardinals could still wind up taking someone in the later portions of the first round who could sit behind Carson for a year or two and pick some stuff up. The Cardinals are in a pretty good position in that they can afford to spend a first round pick on a talented QB who would still be a project. Their defense is pretty well set, but they could always use more offensive line help.

Really the biggest thing working against the Cardinals right now is the division they're in. If they were in the NFC East or the AFC South or even the AFC East they'd probably be a playoff team.

Absolutely. It's just that we're playing with the Seahawks and the 49ers. Like you said, somehow we're getting to be the best division in the league, so it's all nuts.

They had a hell of a year I'll give them that. I hope they win at home and the Bucc's upset big.
