Absolute majority of Americans want GMO food to be labeled

The corporate influence of Monsanto aside, I really don't see why GMO labelling has not been approved as of yet. Some suggest it'll dissuade consumers from purchasing fruit and vegetables that would have otherwise been purchased, therefore impacting sales and spawning some unwarranted health concerns/paranoia, but all that is really required is a small, harmless little bright sticker that says "GMO". I really can not understand that line of argument. Besides, there has yet to be any conclusive evidence that wholeheartedly suggests GM food is bad for human consumption. I'd probably still purchase GM food on a regular basis even if labelling was given the green light (since many of the major supermarkets in Australia seldom sell full-grown organic produce), but I still think it is the consumers' right to be aware the fruit and vegetables they are purchasing is genetically modified.

This really only seems like a problem in the US and some other countries. Russia have outright banned GM food whilst other states have either approved labelling seamlessly, controlled the number of GM imports, or also implemented a full ban. I think all of this speculation and debate really just is reflective on Monsanto's prodigious influence and power and nothing more.

Well, you can't really put it aside, because that's probably the largest factor :lol

I really need to read more about the Monsanto stuff, though. Whenever I see a thread on Reddit or anywhere else about the most evil companies in the world, Monsanto is always near the top of the list. I only have a vague understanding of what makes them so bad, and I'm not really sure if the average person is even aware at all.

The two biggest reasons why people hate on Monsanto:

Monsanto were the people behind Agent Orange, killing 400,000 people and causing horrific birth defects for over 500,000 children. They are now in charge of your food.

40% of US crops contain Monsanto genes. Studies have shown a link between Monsanto's pesticides and Parkinson's disease, Alzheimers, autism, multiple sclerosis, infertility and cancer.

Chances are, the breakfast of several Americans is banned in most other countries.

There have been numerous cases in regards to independent farmers getting kicked off their land or having their resources deliberately destroyed as a way for Monsanto to continue to impose its monopoly across the smallest of communities and towns.

In regards to the correlation between pesticides and its various health consequences, I do know some of these studies are seldom conducted by reputable scientists and that some of the results are deliberately taken out of context and misconstrued on the basis of advancing one's own agenda, but yes, they're nonetheless certainly interesting.

Monsanto is one of the worst things to ever happen. There's a documentary somewhere about them but I need to look for it.

Monsanto is a major evil of this world, no plausible argument against that. I personally wouldn't trust anything that comes out of that company and neither should anyone else. Monsanto must be killed. They obviously don't care about the well-being of anything aside from profit. The harder they come, the harder they fall. Eventually. Hopefully.

Monsanto is horrible. I just don't understand how the people who produced "agent orange" can also produce food.
