I think it has something to do with hi-jacking. It has been taken somewhere and some people are covering it. For whatever reason. That's the only explanation I can think of. Planes don't just disappear.

My best guess from what I've heard is that it was hijacked and went off course, then probably crashed. Whether the hijackers meant to crash it, or just to land it somewhere and couldn't fly the plane properly, I don't know.

This story freaks me out, how can a plane just disappear? I think hijacking too and that they took it off course and then crashed it somewhere. I really feel for the family members of those who were on that plane, it must be horrible not knowing what has happened to them :(

Don't airplanes have like some sort of GPS tracker attached to them? Aren't there a group of people who keep track of airplanes in the sky on their radars or whatever? I just don't understand how this is possible considering all the technology we have.

Dude built a flight simulator in his house building up to this, he most definitely landed it on some island and my guess was his plan is to send a message in the coming days about how he'll kill everyone if they don't promise the freedom of Anwar Ibrahim who was sentenced to five years in prison in a court decision, a supporter of Anwar was one of the pilots Zaharie Ahmad Shah, his family moved out of the family home just one day before the flight’s takeoff... his plan obviously not thought out because now he is stuck because the second he makes contact with anyone they will have their location pin pointed.

I must live under a rock. So a plane just up and disappeared? Where the hell have I been. My money is on it crashed and everyone is dead. Most likely into the ocean where I doubt it will be found.

Alot more to it then that, the pilots switched off the comms off, apparently the last words before switching off was "All right, good night"

The plane is crashed somewhere in the ocean. There is no hostage situation, it makes no sense.

Maybe the pilot wanted to die and felt like playing a god and taking a bunch of innocents with him. It's a terrible event but mental illness could very well be involved if the pilot is indeed at fault.

But why would he change the course of the flight, wouldn't he have just plumpted towards the ground if that was the case

Asians and Muslims are very much driven by pride and as a consequence see suicide as the ultimate failing. Suggestions are that he would have sought the deepest part of the ocean to crash into to alleviate the chances of the wreckage being found and the truth coming out. The flip side is the co pilot who would probably try to make you not kill him and everyone else.

I could also entertain the idea of very dumb hijackers trying to make the plane fly to somewhere outside its fuel range again, crashing into the sea. But then if you were smart enough to turn off transponders you would probably identify the fuel range.

The hostage thing isn't washing for the fact that nothing has been announced yet and the logistical nightmare it would be to have 250 odd hostages for a week.

Yeah everything I've read seems to indicate that the only two real possibilities are a catastrophic systems failure or a pilot suicide. It's an intriguing story because you'd think it'd be easier to find out the truth, but the truth probably isn't anywhere near as exciting as people seem to think it is.

The plane carried on flying for four hours after comms was (according to airline) turned off by the pilots so I can't see it being catastrophic systems failure and I just can't believe pilot suicide... I mean there was 239 people on that flight and unless then co-pilot was in on the suicide pact then surely several of the many people on the plane would of stopped it and contacted help....

One of the theories that USA today is reporting is that two Iranians who boarded the flight had stolen passports and the pair had tickets to get to Europe, the two could of taken over the plane and in an act to save the thousands that could of potentially died in the plane crashing into a building or what have you, the pilot crashed into the water.

It is one of the situations where we may never ever find out what happened
