I hate shit like this

A former UFC fighter posted this on Facebook.

Typical thinly-veiled racist / xenophobic Facebook post checklist:

- Taking a few cherrypicked incidents and blowing them way out of proportion
- Claiming we do whatever immigrants want us to do
- Claiming other races / countries are barbaric
- "If you don't like it, you can just geeeet out!"
- Mentioning the military (just for good measure)

Top marks. I see the same kind of posts about the UK all the time. Constant tripe that soon Christmas will be banned, that Muslims are taking over our politics and stealing our jobs/homes/women/money, and plenty of other crap. It's embarrassing to see.

That's the best thing about Facebook though, it helps you identify all the racists/bigots/idiots you know, so you can delete them (both from the website, and life in general)

Yeah, just a thick cunt really. Thinks that just because his beliefs aren't shoved down the throats of school children that means they're being persecuted? They're perfectly free to exercise whatever beliefs they want on their own time, it's just not a mandatory part of education and by no means should it be. Has the cheek to talk about other people forcing their beliefs on him when he's advocating for his own being forced on every child in the country? Goon.

Oh yes, this is a regular occurence on Facebook. This one guy who I used to hang out with as a kid but who I grew apart from as we got older, used to post shit like this. He posted one too many of these and on a bad pissed off mood, I hit the unfriend button.

I bet you he's not even had the thought to try and see what the reason is - just typed before engaging his brain.

I've always thought the pledge of allegiance was a little weird personally. Irish schools are almost entirely Catholic unfortunately, so we had some teachers who would make us say a prayer before class. Which I started refusing to do once I became a teenager, because I was uncomfortable with it. At least you don't have much of that in America, but instead school kids can be asked to basically say a prayer to a flag. I dunno, I've always gotten mildly culty vibes from that. It might be a factor in the more extreme patriotism that exists in parts of America, which you don't tend to see in other Western countries.

I don't entirely disagree with the guy's premise, but the way he went about arguing his points was the real issue. I get the idea behind wanting to keep American pride instilled in the younger generation, but we have to allow those kids the right to not participate in those activities as well. If a student chooses to stay seated during the national anthem, then they should have that right. If a student chooses to not celebrate Thanksgiving, then that is fine. It is fine if people feel the need to practice their beliefs, but attempting to accommodate all of those beliefs can be difficult for schools and government entities. I have always wanted the schools to let the students decide. Let students decorate their desks with whatever imagery that they choose (within reason). Make it the same for faculty. Just don't allow those images to be posted in communal areas (walls, ceilings, windows, etc).

As someone who attended a Christian junior high and high school, I can assure you that the pledge of allegiance is not like a prayer. Prayers are more for internal reflection and personal use. The pledge is more about remembrance of American history. I am sure at first it was actually used as an actual pledge, but now it is more about honoring the history of America. We can debate about the bad parts of American history later.

I don't know if anyone saw this on reddit, but there was a thread where people were discussing terrorism and ISIS. At one point, some guy, think he may have been from America, starting making claims about the UK. He claimed that there are some parts of the UK that are no go areas for non Muslims. He claims that Muslims patrol the streets, inflicting Sharia law on everyone and that the police are afraid to go to these areas. He used random online articles and small acts of violence by some Muslims as proof that this is a common occurrence at that it happens all the time. Basically saying we are a Muslim state. This one guy, from London, rebuffed his claims, saying that they are just not true. The guy responded with the typical name calling, saying he was uninformed and ignorant, and then dared him to go to Woolwich with a bottle of wine and see how long he lasts. He told him to see how long it would take for his little protective bubble he has around him to burst. So he did. He went out, bought a bottle of wine and walked around Woolwich. He recorded it all and put it up onto Youtube. Here's the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G3Doe9QrGk

Even after seeing this video, the guy still insisted he was right and refused to admit he had been proven wrong. There are some people who just love to hate and will use anything as fuel to justify their hate.

Probably gets his info from Fox News where idiots like Katie Hopkins will report this shit as fact for her fifteen minutes of fame.

I don't understand how these ignorant fucks can't see that Muslims aren't the problem, it's the bullshit propaganda and fearmongering they themselves are spreading that's the problem.

If I'm being completely honest I think this is a horrible example of what PorkChop was trying to show, talk about, discuss. This guy was actually fairly measured and decent in his response. Are there certain ways he says some things that are a little off-putting? Sure, but this is a guy that got punched in the face for a living, expecting him to speak like a Rhodes Scholar is probably asking for too much. On the surface I actually agree with him more than disagree with him.

First of all, Thanksgiving has no religious component, so I'm not sure how it got lumped into it, but if it's true that a holiday celebrating people from different backgrounds and races coming together even if it was just for a brief moment in time is no longer allowed to be recognized then I find that a sad state of affairs.

The Pledge of Allegiance thing I think is a really silly thing for people to get upset about. Yes, the words under God are in the Pledge of Allegiance, but so are the words with Liberty and Justice for All. If we focused more on the closing words of the Pledge of Allegiance than a couple of words in the middle then I think a more important lesson could be learned than any one over religion. I'm not all that religious of a person and I find most to all examples of forcing a majority religion on everyone deplorable, but this is the lamest place to try and fight that battle.

I do also think it's somewhat true that there's a certain amount of stripping of the pride of America and for the most part that's a really bad thing. Being proud of your country and where you are from can put you into a positive frame of mind. It can push you to put that place in the mot positive light possible and work hard in those endeavors. You do have to also teach an open mind to outside ideas, but I think it's possible to do both.

Everything after this is a pretty heavy dose of rhetoric, but also not completely inaccurate.
