Carlito could be returning to WWE

- We noted before that WWE officials were interested in bringing back former WWE Tag Team, Intercontinental and United States Champion Carlito as they continue to search for a top Latin star.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this week that the money WWE offered Carlito was so low that he didn't take the deal. However, the impression was given that Carlito would take a deal if better money was offered.

WWE wanted Carlito back as part of the re-packaging they're doing with Los Matadores that has bee discussed but not finalized yet. Carlito is the brother to Diego and a cousin of Fernando.

As long as he returns with the "spit in the face" gimmick

It's weird, cos I feel like he'd have to be completely different if he came back. He was a good wrestler back then, and he wrestled a high flying style sometimes, but he had a reputation for being a bit lazy and that probably rang true in the ring also. He didn't exactly cut a blistering pace. And that was a decade ago. I can't imagine he's gotten fitter or more athletic.

The guy was a good promo though, and a decent character. And he has ties to others in the company. He could make a decent mentor to Los Matadors, if you separated them from the crappy gimmick. Somewhere between Bray Wyatt's role in the Wyatt Family and Konnan's role on Lucha Underground, or with LAX in TNA years ago. He'd be able to step into the ring when the occasion called for it, but 'Los Matadors' could do the vast majority of the team's wrestling.

But why though? I mean it just doesn't make a lot of sense. He hasn't been in the company for years, it's not like he was a huge star even then. So I'm not sure there's a whole lot of nostalgia value there. He's a decent enough worker, but like Hanley said he had a reputation as being lazy and a bad attitude so I'm not sure you're bringing him back as a "veteran presence" to help the young guys.

They have dozens of guys down in NXT you could bring up. Hell, a guy like Tyler Breeze has been in NXT for years, you could call him up and he could get just as over, and he's a lot cheaper and younger.

Eh, gotta be honest, he reminds me of that other crop of talent such as MVP, Mr Kennedy, Lashley and Chris Masters, wrestlers WWE tried to make relevant and push, but just never resonated with me.

Surely there are younger Hispanic stars out there WWE could get? Someone new, fresh and doesn't have a past drug and attitude problem?

I've always liked Carlito, He does seem kinda lazy though, but I don't understand what happened. He used to be pretty fit, but he's so...skinnyfat these days, IDK. Like he's not lean enough to go at a high pace, he isn't strong enough to be a brawler/grappler, he can't pull the muay thai shit or whatever like Punk. Jericho's the same way and it works for him though.

I hope he comes back, I mark for the guy, always have. It's a nice gimmick. His mic skills are underrated.

Don't put him in a tag team though, please. He'll be out of the company again before you can say Cool.

I loved MVP back in the day. That was an opportunity squandered, I thought he had the potential to be a headliner, if only for a year or two. He's too old now and isn't in great shape, so I don't see him ever coming back to WWE for a great run. But man, he could have been something with the right booking. A+ talker with an A+ gimmick, great music, a wonderfully audacious outfit and just tons of charisma. That guy could have been money.
