Well cops need guns in the states because the whole shoot a guy in the knee with a rubber bullet routine doesn't work in countries where the risk is so high. People bring up Australia, but the population and the culture are so different. In Australia you've got the white people, the Aboriginal community and a few Asians here or there. They don't have a ghetto. And I'd be willing to bet money on an Iraq veteran or whatever going solo on the cops trying to disarm him. This also doesn't stop guns from coming from Mexico, either.

The messages the Left has about guns is sometimes admirable, being so against violence, but the execution, the way they want to do it is like a boat with holes in it. Yes, stopping gun violence is important. But the how is also important. Not every good idea works when applied to a different situation. This is much like the Sanders crowd talking about free college. Nothing is free. Do they know how it's free? Where's the money coming from? What happens if the job field becomes very crowded and many degrees are rendered useless? (Not like that hasn't happened already. . .)

I'd like to explore other methods of stopping mass shooters with more focus on mental health in the country. That to me is a risk free investment that helps prevent lunatics going looney in the first place.

And when you see your miserable attempt at taking away guns from thugs or hillbillies turn into shoot out after shoot out, you can pat yourself on the back for being progressive. :cheers

Isn't the fact that you foresee this as being such a widespread problem with gun owners an indictment of the state of gun ownership in the United States itself?

With such a high population, especially ones in a lower class, guns have a higher chance ending up in the wrong hands. I think we underrated how many guns aren't store bought. Have you ever considered that the school shootings are a sympton of a mental health crisis? Pumping kids up full of shit like Ritalin or Xanax, hell as a Marijuana smoker, young people having their mental issues activated by smoking every day.

Men going nuts because they have no purpose in the world. No jobs available.

I don't blame guns for the violent shootings. They certainly play a part obviously, but so many people in America are fucking nuts. And they don't get treatment. Because people can't afford to go to the doctor. So Jimmy shoots up a strip mall, and the doctors buy a new condo in Arizona. It's an insurance company issue IMO, making a killing with insane premiums.

Libs love mental health awareness but seem to get cold feet when that logic is applied to guns and shootings. I don't understand why.

Edit: why do I keep mentioning Liberals? :lol

Most liberals would just like to see gun control AND an increased focus on mental health. Rather than using one as a shield against the other. And then even losing their interest in the mental health issues between mass shootings.

There's nothing wrong with tackling an issue on more than one front. People should be doing all they can to make this problem go away. That means reducing the amount of guns available AND trying to remove people's incentive to use them.

So you try your idea on a slow burn, basically? Okay. ..well we've seen that it doesn't reduce crime because guns come in from other states and the violent, crazy people just use knives anyway lmao. So to me I feel like you'd be putting a few states through hell until the gun pickup is finally completed.

The knives argument has always been bullshit. It's so weak and that correlation has been disproved a million times. If a guy decides to go on a killing spree in a school with a knife, chances are he doesn't manage to kill anyone. It's not like for like, not by a freaking long shot.

I feel like the mass shootings are the only things that really get people talking about gun control too, but they make up a very small amount of the gun deaths in America. What about all the accidental deaths that happen in homes with firearms? There's not too many people out there accidentally killing themselves with knives. And speaking of mental health, suicide makes up a far larger number of gun related deaths than either of the above. There aren't all that many people out there who choose to stab themselves to death. And if people don't have something as clean and easy to use as a gun readily accessible during their lowest moments, it's proven that most of them just won't go through with their suicide plans.

You can't slit your wrists in a bath tub with a gun. Knives and suicide go well together. Cutting is a big part of depression for some edgy people so I think knives have a role in mental health. Am I banning knives? No. Banning guns was never the answer to America's gun problem. The answer is improving the system. Keeping guns out if circulation. Mental health checks. Handguns and hunting weapons only. The country isnt the size of Ireland or Canada, population wise, there's to many gun owners for any sort of banning and mass collection. I've come to accept the evil government can kill us all whenever they'd like so weapons won't help the citizens fight back. Protecting yourself with a firearm is a good idea in some parts of America.

So I can't tell if I'm Liberal on guns ir not. Perhaps I'm moderate?
