Whether it be XBone, PS4, or WiiU. Looking to get one in the near future.

Heh, we were just having this discussion in the chat.

As a PC guy the console that looks the best is the Wii U, it has the biggest selection of exclusive games currently out (Splatoon, Smash 4, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D World) making up a very solid library and a fantastic companion to a gaming rig. It also has a load of upcoming games like Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Wooly World, Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X and the new Zelda.

These are all truly exclusive and you can't get them anywhere but the Wii U. The only drawback of the system is that exclusives are all it has. As a companion to a PC, it's fantastic as the only reason to have a console is for exclusives and the Wii U has the best ones. If it is going to be your only console, though, consider that third party support for the system will be weak. Even with that in mind it's a damn fine system and I would heartily recommend getting one.

If it is going to be your only gaming system, probably go PS4. It has the next best looking selection of exclusives while still having the crucial third party support you would miss out on with the Wii U. Bloodborne, inFamous: Second Son, Killzone Shadow Fall and upcoming games like The Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter V*, Shenmue 3* and Horizon: Zero Dawn are all the kind of thing I want to get my hands on. It's also objectively the most powerful system and in the console spectrum it will have the best performance.

Compare that to the Xbox One. Currently they have things like Killer Instinct*, Dead Rising 3*, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse: Son of Rome*, Ori and the Blind Forest* and D4* currently out. They also have things like Gears 4, Halo 5, ReCore, Sea of Thieves and Cuphead*.

The PS4 offerings look more appealing to me. Bloodborne is the pick of the lot, it's a wonderful game. The most exciting upcoming release from my point of view is Horizon, another PS4 only game.

I should mention that I'm not including re-releases in this, there are a fair few on each platform, things like Wind Waker HD on the Wii U, Master Chief Collection and Gears Ultimate Edition* on the Xbox, Last of Us Remastered and the Nathan Drake Collection on the PS4 among others.

If you were wondering what the asterisks next to some game names meant, those games are console exclusives, not true exclusives. This basically means that while those games can not be found on any of the other consoles, they are also available on PC, I know you're probably wanting a console but I felt it was worth mentioning anyway.

First and foremost, how much do you enjoy playing online and with your friends? If that is something that will make a huge difference, then I strongly suggest going with the system that you have the most friends on. There are a lot of games out there that are simply unplayable without buddies. For example, Destiny has gotten so much better after updates but is something that I wouldn't invest much if any time in if I had nobody to play with. Leveling up would be damn near impossible (granted, you can find people to do with Raids, Prison of Elders, and Trials with on Reddit) and quite frankly not nearly as enjoyable.

If amount of friends on a particular console won't be a deciding factor, then it makes things a bit more difficult. As someone who has owned and soon to own both systems, they both have their major pluses and minuses. I don't know if they have improved it through an update, but PS4's user interface is crap compared to Xbox, which will only continue to improve with the Fall update. However, X1 can be really funky if you do too much simultaneously although this shouldn't be too big of a concern considering the future update will correct this. Like SlightlyJames said, PS4 is the stronger system. I prefer the PS4 controller over X1's and the new controller X1 is bringing out simply isn't going to be worth the price, well at least not for you most likely.

Playstation Now I believe its called supports backwards compatibility, but you have to pay a fee which kind of sucks. Xbox will bring backwards compatibility to the table sometime in the Fall at no extra cost (of course, you need to own the games), which if you had a 360 is kind of cool. There are about 20 games or so that are already confirmed and you can cross-play with 360 users. Microsoft is promising at least 100 games will be playable by December and more should continue to be added as the main thing they need is approval from the developer(s) of the game.

If you're a fan of EA, then Xbox One has EA Access. Playstation could possibly get it in the future but it's looking unlikely based off everything Sony has said. It's a fee of $5 a month or (I think) $30 a year and you get a discount on all EA games and they make a game free every month or so. If you have never played Dragon Age: Inquisition but are interested in doing so, that game will be free on EA Access next month. Titanfall is also free, but that game sucks IMO. Madden 15, FIFA 15, NHL 15, Battlefield 4 (which is much improved after patches), Plants vs Zombies (really good game) are also free. It's a really good deal.

However, that is about where the advantage Xbox has over PS4 ends for me. It's just one man's opinion but PS4's exclusives are just so much better than what the Xbox One has to offer. Halo 5 looks fantastic and ReCore seems interesting, but it just isn't enough to compete with what the PS4 has to offer.

Wii U is something that you should probably avoid unless you already have a PC or a console. They have great exclusives, arguably the best of the bunch and certainly the largest, but the third party support is damn near nonexistent.

Long story short:

1. If it means anything to you, go to the console where the majority of your friends play.
2. PS4, unless you are interested in playing a lot of the 360 games again (this could become an even bigger plus for Xbox if we find out exactly what games are likely to get approved) or love the Halo or Gears of War series.

Heh, I'm on the opposite stance for both of these actually. I prefer the Xbox One controller and the PS4 UI. :lol

I have a very stupid question to ask people who own the new consoles: is there still noticeable console noise? Something that bugs me a lot about the XBox360 in particular is that it's very loud. What's weird is that the version I bought was being advertised by Gamestop (not that their word is worth a damn thing) as a silent console. But that was never true, and it seems to be getting worse over time. It's irritating watching a movie or playing an atmospheric game with all that whirring and buzzing in the background.

E3 seemed great this year. There's actually enough games I'm interested in coming out to maybe justify me getting a new console next year. The backwards compatibility thing makes me want to go with XBox, but based on exclusives and reputation, I reckon I'd be going for the PS4.

Though I might consider a WiiU at some point too, given it's got the most fun games at this point, and one of them is Smash Bros. It's a tough call, but this is the first time I've given any real thought to buying one of the new consoles. There just weren't enough good games announced for most of them until recently.

I haven't noticed it with Xbone.

You probably need to clean out the fan. You need to do that every so often with computers and consoles, because dust easily gets into the fan and when it builds up, it makes the device have to work harder. Also can become a fire risk.

Honestly the PS4 and Xbox are pretty much exactly the same, regardless of what a fanboy for either one will tell you. I stuck with Xbox because all the friends I play games with are on Xbox. There aren't enough exclusives these days to really sell me either way, but I have always been a Halo fan so that's another point in Xbox's favor.

Get a PS4 so I can embarrass you on FIFA and add another head to my collection.
