Honestly, this isn't close for me. Gary Oldman all the way.

I'll also take Oldman in this, but I feel that by the end of DiCaprio's career he could change that.

It's hard to think that he's just turned 40, as it feels like he's been around for much longer - and despite being relatively young he's put in some top performances over the years. I won't bother listing them as there's so many, and you all know them anyway. He's a fine actor, and will go on to achieve legendary status (if he hasn't already).

But Gary Oldman is Gary Oldman, and could potentially win this tournament. Very few can disappear into their roles the way Oldman can, and deliver an excellent performance time and time again. Along way Daniel Day Lewis and a couple of others, he's easily one of the best actors still working today, which is why he's my pick here.

DiCaprio is good, don't get me wrong. I like a lot of his movies. He's a rare Hollywood A-list actor that seems to be quite discerning with the films he picks, rather than just appearing in any old shit that will pay. And better still, he turns in quality performances in all of those films too. He's possibly the current best actor in the world of his particular status and age range.

But he's not Gary Oldman. He doesn't make it all look as easy as Oldman does. While both give great performances, Oldman makes his look effortless. Which is the difference between thinking "what a great performance" and briefly losing yourself in the story and forgetting it's a performance at all. I can do that with Oldman at his best, but it's never happened to me with DiCaprio.

Plus, basically nobody is as accomplished at losing themselves in a role as Gary Oldman. There are a handful of people, but DiCaprio certainly isn't one of them.
