What are the best/worst things about the town you live in?

Postby Everlong » Oct 24, '13, 4:59 pm

I live in Milwaukee. Personally I really like it, I think it's super underrated when it comes to the national level.

The best: In my completely biased opinion, we're the best city in the world for craft brewing. Stuff is pretty inexpensive here as well... we're basically a smaller, cheaper Chicago. We've got some awesome museums, the beautiful Lake Michigan, super passionate sports fans and a lot of cool bars to head out to, especially if you're looking for a great beer selection. We also have some of the cleanest tap water in the world.

The worst: This one doesn't effect me all that much, but we are the most racially segregated city in the United States. Not a great title to claim. Winters are long and cold and since we're next to the lake, the snow we get is often really wet and sloppy.

The best: Apart from it being home and I will almost feel safer here than anywhere, I will try and think of something cool about my town. The coolest thing would be that The Dark Knight trilogy as well as Inception were filmed here.

The worst: The nightlife. It used to be good and my friends would go out every week. But now, all of our favourite places have closed down and there is no where really decent to go. And we are not really a bit town. You go out and see the same people every weekend.

The Best: We're only a 30 minute train ride away from Manhattan, and dont have the crowds or high prices Manhattan has. So we get the best of both worlds basiclaly. Super diverse are too. Abit of every race here. Also, everything is close to my house. movies, school, food places all walkin distance.

Worst: theres acouple bad high crime areas in town, also alot of crazy homless guys in one area during my walk home from school :lol

Best is that we have some really beautiful countrysides.

Worst is being ranked number 2 on the meth labs busts list.

We're stuck right in the middle of Toronto and Montreal.

I can't think of the best parts of Ottawa. It's a great tourist city I suppose.

Worst: Not a lot of fun things to do that are close by.

The town I live in is called Prince Albert. If you don't know what a prince albert piercing is, google image it. Pretty much summarizes the city.

Good: I never struggle to find something to do in town. Good bars, tons of restaurants, and generally good people.

Bad: The state of Michigan has possibly the worst economic situation in the US and The largest city near by (Detroit) just filed for bankruptcy.

Good thread.

Best: It's Birmingham, the second city! We have virtually everything London has except we're relatively cheap. And we have the Bullring, that's great.

Worst: Er.. Depending on where exactly you go there can be some horrific areas where you're virtually guaranteed to get mugged.

Got I hate the Bullring. Every time I have gone there I haven't actually gone in any shops because they are all too packed. And it's always so busy I can barely find space to walk. I'm sure I would like it more if I were able to look around, relax and shop a bit more.

One time me and my friends were in Birmingham and we were driving down this road. Not sure where we were but almost every building had it's windows boarded up.

Edmonton is nowhere near an ocean and I love that fact. I am terrified of the ocean and this is just the perfect place for me.

Our summers and autumn may be short but there's no place on Earth I'd rather spend it. The weather is awesome, the skies are clear and blue and in the summer the sun fucking lasts forever. Winter is when you should vacation in other places no summer :lol

We have a high crime and murder rate by Canadian standards. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. I mean we're a damn paradise compared to a lot of American and Mexican cities but still.

Our sports teams all suck except the Oil Kings because they are awesome and love us. The Eskimos, Oilers, Rush and FC Edmonton all suck.

We have long cold winters and more potholes than we can handle.

We are the capital of Alberta which is the best province in the nation and therefore we are better than you. We are also have as many people as there are in all of Saskatchewan.

I live here, take that as you will :lol

Best - I live within walking distance to the supermarket and convenience store. Also, I am very close to the Prudential Center in Newark, Met Life Stadium and the IZOD center in East Rutherford, and MSG in Manhattan. I can walk two blocks, hop on a bus, and be at any of these places in half an hour or less. It's so much better than paying for parking. Unfortunately, I've been low on cash lately and can't afford to go to any events there. I live in New Jersey, which has the best of both worlds, the shore and the mountains.Worst - One problem, and this is very minor, is that it sucks trying to travel out of town during rush hour and Jersey drivers are dicks.

Ok now I don't want you to think I am racist for posting this. I'm just telling you the truth of my town. We have a huge amount of drunk natives. The fact is 90% of the people that the cops pick up for public intoxication don't even have a residence in my town because they come from the reserves to drink and get fucked up here. The town I live in should be called the dirtiest place in Canada. Something like half of the people living here have an std, and I'm pretty sure that Prince Albert has the most people with AIDS per capita. It is not a good town at all. I can't wait till I move away from this shit hole. Best part sadly is... well to be honest I can't think of anything.

Is Prince Albert worse than Prince George? That place is a bung hole. Also drunk natives are an issue in just about every Western Canadian city. I deal with A LOT of them in the area I work and the area I live. Almost got into a bunch of fights with a bunch of them.

Way worse than Prince George, and once you've been to PA, you realize what a real drunk native problem really is. Everywhere else seems like heaven compared to here,

I work in one of the sketchier Edmonton neighborhoods, i used to work in another and I currently reside in a fairly sketchy neighborhood. I have also gone to reserves before. I am well aware of how bad it can get :lol. And it may sound racist and that's because it is. There is a lot of animosity between Canadians and natives which is sad. I assume it's similar to how Europeans feel about gypsies. We should be a united people, a united Canada. I know some think they could all band together and forcefully take over Canada :?.

Ipswich, Massachusetts

The best: A northern coastal paradise. Hundreds of acres of rural woodland and marshland, 5 minutes from the ocean, 20 minutes from Boston and a quick two hour drive to the heart of the breathtaking White Mountains of NH. We also have the smallest population considering how spread out our town lines are if you compare Ipswich to the surrounding towns and cities. Another cool thing is the lack of corporations. There's a Dunks and a Cumby's, and pretty much everything else is locally owned. A Subway recently got put in downtown and everyone made a huge stink about it, thousands signed the petition against it, but they just scraped by.

The worst: You can't get good food past 9 PM on the weekdays and 10 on the weekends. It's nice because the nights are peaceful and serene, but I always find myself craving some good food after work. Also, being a coastal town, we naturally have a lot of drunk fisherman and clammers. But that's all pretty charming in the end.
