I agree with you on the villains, they've always been the major weakness in the franchise - even in the comic books. Spiderman doesn't have a particularly good rogues gallery. It's pretty terrible actually. But he's a more sympathetic hero and easier to relate to than almost any other - add the fact that he's a fun character with entertaining (yet still limited) powers and it makes up for an awful lot.

There's only been one bad Spiderman film in my mind - Spiderman 3 (which was awful). The Amazing Spiderman 2 had its problems, but I think it's a bit underrated given that there's a lot about the movie that was done really well. Great acting and chemistry between the performers, and some pretty good action scenes. The script was just disjointed and Electro kinda sucked.

The actor for Harry Osborne seems like he could make a great villain though, if he was allowed to carry the antagonist role by himself in a future movie. Too bad it looks like they're running with the Sinister Six instead. :(

It seems like they're actually going to have Stark be the one who creates Ultron rather than Hank Pym, which I think would be a mistake, but we'll see what happens. It would be a really good way to tie in Ant-Man, though.

Well it says he's jump starting a dormant peacekeeping program, it could be that the original design was by Hank Pym?

That could be, yeah.

By the way, gonna be interesting to see how Paul Rudd does as Ant-Man. I'm kind of disappointed that they're not going with Pym as Ant-Man, but at least he's going to be a factor.

Are they really doing an Ant Man movie?? I'm a casual comic guy, but if Ant Man is at all what he sounds like, he does not seem like the kind of character that can carry a successful movie. Then again Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't as well known by the general public and it was a big hit.

Edgar Wright, the talented filmmaker behind works such as Hot Fuzz, Shawn of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, was initially behind the (now) upcoming Ant-Man film. It was a rather personal project for him, but he ended up having clashing views with Marvel on how they should 'proceed' with the film. Consequently, he left, which is a rather audacious move by a filmmaker, especially on a large-scale project that has a lot of money and resources, and especially in Hollywood where decisions like this can be detrimental to your status in the industry. He refused to conform to the studio system and gave up on something he spent numerous years developing.

Wright has never said why, specifically, he left the project so abruptly, but he's hinted at the notion that Marvel were simply looking for a filmmaker to coerce and manipulate on the set. A puppet, if you will. Wright had his own vision with Ant-Man and one that was evidently much different to Marvel's. Marvel didn't accept it, so Wright left. I have no idea how good or bad the film will be, but it's clearly going to be Marvel's vision. Look at who is directing the project now - Peyton Reed, a relatively obscure filmmaker who was obviously placed there to direct with orders and then get kicked out during post.

At this point the Marvel/Avengers franchise will sell itself. It's a good move by Marvel to hold off on Ant-Man until this stage of things. The general public is going to be largely unfamiliar with the character, but the tie-in with the current Avengers storyline will get them coming to see the movie.
