We had a section dedicated to this on WWE-Club if I recall. I thought it would be a fun little thread to see what people may be watching at the time.
Here's a fun interview from Steve Austin back in '97 after he had broken his neck at SummerSlam! I have been watching a lot of Austin lately - I forgot just how damn good he was.
Every part of this is pure gold! This may be Austin's best promo and that's saying something. There was no scripting this, he just ran his mouth for 5 minutes and barely stopped to take a breath.
"He calls himself a Gorilla, but he hee-haws like a jackass!"
"He can't even spell his own last name, that's how stupid he is!"
One of the most memorable segments with two of the Greatest ever. I have to say there's very few people in history who could do an almost 20 minute segment going from serious, to funny, to singing, to serious, to fighting and make it work like this.
In my opinion this was the best segment of 2008, and really did an incredible job setting up the story for the Hell in a Cell match at Summrslam. Some of Edge and Foley's best work.
Both of those segments were top notch. The Rock and Steve Austin were always fantastic to watch when they were in the ring together. Oddly enough, they never really crossed paths as much as you would think. They did face off at 3 WrestleMania's, but I believe they only had 3 other one-on-one singles matches on pay-per-view (Rebellion 2001, WWE Championship; Backlash 1999, WWE Championship; D-Generation X: In Your House, WWE Intercontinental Championship). You look today and Cena/Edge, Cena/Orton, etc., all the WWE's "big money" matches get thrown away quickly and the guys are involved with each other a lot. Looking back, it doesn't really seem that way with The Rock vs. Steve Austin. All of their 6 PPV matches were different.
Everything in the Edge/Undertaker story was just gold and that Cutting Edge with Mick Foley was arguably the best thing in it. I mean I always knew Edge was awesome but it was kind of different than anything he had done to that point and I remember people thinking that there might be a chance he would win. Of course, it made all the sense in the world for The Undertaker to get his revenge. Speaking of Foley, LOVE this promo!
Another one of my favourites, Bret Hart buries the hatchet with Owen and Bulldog, reuniting the Hart Foundation which would lead to an awesome summer of 97. Bret was better than people give him credit for on the mic.
