Are The Wyatts on their way out?

Postby Stvtayl » Aug 26, '14, 5:50 am

So Rowan & Harper have been on a losing streak for a while now in Tag Team and singles action both losing to Jericho and being beaten in numerous Tagb Team matches lately, and with the Dusty Brothers turning Heel last night are perhaps out of the picture.

And then last night Bray Wyatt, (who WWE have at least made an effort with), was ALMOST on the end of a Cena squash match then all THREE of them suffer AA's.

And thgen you take a look at the Creative side of The Wyatts, and ALL their feuds since debuting in WWE, such as Kane, Cena & Jericho............and you have to wonder if any of those feuds did ANYTHING to move the characters in any direction.

And now you're left wondering, where does their future lie?

Bray Wyatt has a gimmick which has a limited shelf life, that's the problem.

It was cool to begin with, but with every rambling, nonsensical promo he's delivered it's been getting more and more tedious. He doesn't seem to have any particular message, and he can only play the crazy antagonist for so long before becoming repetitive. This is unfortunate as he's excellent on the microphone, but he's been given very little to work with for some time.

They're definitely on their way out. I wouldn't say their ship has sailed, but it's certainly leaving the docks.

The Undertaker's Deadman gimmick, which was far more restricting, lasted him 9 years and that is just talking about his run in the 90s although I will admit Undertaker competed in some ridiculous and horrific storylines. Hell, Kane didn't even talk for a lot of his early run and I don't think he stopped being interesting until 2004 (was complete shit when he returned in '02 vs. Un-Americans) and he wasn't as skilled as Wyatt is. So I disagree with Wyatt's gimmick having a limited shelf life. You can't do as much with him as you can with other wrestlers but Bray Wyatt could have lasted a very, very long time if the WWE booked him right. There are a lot of things that are hurting him, though.

For one, the WWE exposes him way too much. Unfortunately that is just the nature of the beast nowadays. He has slowly lost his uniqueness. His entrance no longer feels special because we are subjected to it every week. His promos lose meaning because they ask him to talk every week. If I'm writing the show, and I am not going to pretend like I would be great at it, but if I were writing the show Bray Wyatt is only going to be heard from rarely. When he speaks, it should mean something. We all loved Wyatt initially because it was new and refreshing. And like all good things in life, the WWE ran it to the ground. They over-exposed him and damaged his mystique. They shot him into a program with John Cena when he wasn't ready. We all laughed at the idea of it when it was brought up in January and only because of Wyatt's work on the microphone at the time and his match with Bryan at the Royal Rumble were we beginning to grow to the idea of it. But in the long-term of things, which the WWE didn't look at, it simply wasn't beneficial to Wyatt. Unless you were going to give Wyatt the WWE Championship, which couldn't happen as Cena didn't hold the title, there was only one place for Wyatt to go after feuding (and losing) to Cena and that was down. Not to mention everyone began to realize the storyline had no meaning to it anyway and Wyatt's reasoning for wanting to fight Cena just didn't make much sense.

Nobody has been recruited to the Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt hasn't really accomplished anything. He beat Bryan and nothing was said about it again - Daniel Bryan didn't even care the next night. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on the characters but it made Wyatt's message seem weak. He defeated Bryan and still nothing changed.

They should have waited and pulled the trigger on the Wyatt Family vs. The Shield match at WrestleMania. But they kind of put themselves in a corner because they had built up nobody else to face John Cena, especially after Punk left.

I'm not buying into them being "done" yet or anything of the sort. Unfortunately they were the sacrificial lambs last night to try and get over Cena as being meaner, angrier in the ring, and more intense than ever before. They had to feed someone to him who had a shred of respectability. Who else could they have had him beat that's a heel and would have looked impressive? Rusev maybe? but they still want him looking unstoppable.

The Wyatt's gimmick means they can take a loss like this and be fine. Cena is supposed to be one of, if not the Top guy in the whole company. Rowan and Harper looked pretty damn good throughout the match against Show and Henry, two huge beasts. Wyatt can come out next week and squash someone and cut a promo and still be over, he'll be fine.

Yeah, they suck now. I think the company is losing interest in him and it shows. Though they've been on the way down for quite a while in any case. Without any kind of real direction to the team - a set of principles or motivations - you really can't do anything new with them. So the team is just going in circles because WWE don't even realise that the characters are incomplete.

It's unfortunate that they are losing interest in them though, because Wyatt is definitely talented. He's got a great look and he can really talk. So many of the guys they're high on don't nearly have Wyatt's abilities to cut a promo. But unfortunately he's being sent out there every single week with nothing worthwhile to say. And while Rowan is merely serviceable, Harper is a talent too. If the group splits up, he could get released before ever proving to the fans how good he could be.

The last few weeks have proven to me that the company doesn't really care about him any more though. Sure, he got his win back against Jericho, but they've failed to put any kind of punctuation mark on that win. No kind of fuss has been made about it. A day later it was as if it never happened. It wasn't a big win for Wyatt ... it was just his turn. Then you have last night, when the up and coming team that fans were raving about a couple of months ago were just used as jobbers for John Cena.

If they wanted to make Wyatt look good - and tell a good story - all they had to do was have Cena lose to Wyatt because he's still beat up from his match with Lesnar. He could try and give it his all, but just not be operating at 100% - every time he gets some momentum going, he loses strength or gasses or is countered by a faster Wyatt who is operating on full capacity. The commentators can tell that story so that Cena loses no credibility, and it just highlights how doomed he seems to be going into the rematch with Lesnar (which is clearly the story that they're trying to tell). And Wyatt gets a little momentum going. If they were trying, they could have done something like that. But by now they just don't care.

I'm kinda looking forward to the group ending at this point. It's clear they're never getting good again. Just split them up and see Wyatt and Harper can work better under new gimmicks.

Maybe a face run could help a little. It's hard to know. Either way, it's really shoddy booking.
