The Undertaker's Deadman gimmick, which was far more restricting, lasted him 9 years and that is just talking about his run in the 90s although I will admit Undertaker competed in some ridiculous and horrific storylines. Hell, Kane didn't even talk for a lot of his early run and I don't think he stopped being interesting until 2004 (was complete shit when he returned in '02 vs. Un-Americans) and he wasn't as skilled as Wyatt is. So I disagree with Wyatt's gimmick having a limited shelf life. You can't do as much with him as you can with other wrestlers but Bray Wyatt could have lasted a very, very long time if the WWE booked him right. There are a lot of things that are hurting him, though.
For one, the WWE exposes him way too much. Unfortunately that is just the nature of the beast nowadays. He has slowly lost his uniqueness. His entrance no longer feels special because we are subjected to it every week. His promos lose meaning because they ask him to talk every week. If I'm writing the show, and I am not going to pretend like I would be great at it, but if I were writing the show Bray Wyatt is only going to be heard from rarely. When he speaks, it should mean something. We all loved Wyatt initially because it was new and refreshing. And like all good things in life, the WWE ran it to the ground. They over-exposed him and damaged his mystique. They shot him into a program with John Cena when he wasn't ready. We all laughed at the idea of it when it was brought up in January and only because of Wyatt's work on the microphone at the time and his match with Bryan at the Royal Rumble were we beginning to grow to the idea of it. But in the long-term of things, which the WWE didn't look at, it simply wasn't beneficial to Wyatt. Unless you were going to give Wyatt the WWE Championship, which couldn't happen as Cena didn't hold the title, there was only one place for Wyatt to go after feuding (and losing) to Cena and that was down. Not to mention everyone began to realize the storyline had no meaning to it anyway and Wyatt's reasoning for wanting to fight Cena just didn't make much sense.
Nobody has been recruited to the Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt hasn't really accomplished anything. He beat Bryan and nothing was said about it again - Daniel Bryan didn't even care the next night. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on the characters but it made Wyatt's message seem weak. He defeated Bryan and still nothing changed.
They should have waited and pulled the trigger on the Wyatt Family vs. The Shield match at WrestleMania. But they kind of put themselves in a corner because they had built up nobody else to face John Cena, especially after Punk left.
