What's your stance on marijuana?

Postby PorkChop » May 02, '14, 3:25 pm

This was a question in the political quiz Prophet posted earlier.

I'd legalise, tax and regulate it instead of criminalising it.

There is really no reason it should have ever been illegal. So I say legalize it, regulate it and tax it like they already do to alcohol and tobacco. Also do the same for prostitution. Also if marijuana is legalized then we can see a surge in hemp products and that's a bonus. Also it would take away a good chunk of income from the different gangs. I know the Hell's Angels have their hands in the distribution of drugs here and get a good chunk of money from it.

I say legalize, tax and regulate no different from alcohol and tobacco. Let the people decide if they want to use it or not. Over time it would virtually eliminate street dealers and smuggling by taking away the demand

Legalize and free those in jail for marijuana related crimes.

Agreed. It's no worse than alcohol.

It makes zero sense that Alcohol and Tobacco are legal and Marijuana isn't. I agree with legalizing, taxing and regulating it. Millions of people use it, clearly the fact that it's illegal isn't a deterrent. Why not ensure the money people spend on it is going back into the economy rather than into the hands of criminals and gangs?

If someone is in jail simply for having marijuana, I would free them. If possession were no longer illegal, paying to jail someone for just that offense would be a pointless waste of money.

I personally don't like it, but it seems only logical to legalize it and tax it. We spend too much money on enforcement of a substance that doesn't have that many victims (as compared to alcohol, for example). There will always be idiots who abuse it and make a stupid mistake but you can't control the masses for those few exceptions. Let natural selection take place and get rid of the idiots...

Legalize it so I can finally have some. It's too hard for a good upstanding young man like me to get hold of. :lol

I honestly can not understand why any country still makes marijuana illegal. There are many studies proving the medical and monetary benefits of it. At least in the US the government has all but given up fighting the states that choose to legalize it. Its still illegal sadly, but states like Colorado are proving the monetary benefit.

So you would limit this to possession charges? Ok.

Yeah I wouldn't let violent criminals out. But there are plenty of people in jail simply for having weed on them.

Since I personally saw a job where a kid killed his mother over marijuana, I would certainly restrict the everyone gets a pass rule.

Yeah, I'll basically echo what everyone else says. Weed is no more bad for you than or dangerous than drinking. If the government were smart, they would tax and regulate it. God knows how much money they would make.
