Perfect Endings - Extreme Rules 2018

Postby The Legend » Jul 13, '18, 12:17 pm

So, Extreme Rules is this Sunday and I thought it might be fun to take the card and have everyone say what their perfectly booked ending would be for each match to help each storyline.

New Day vs Sanity: Tables Match - Sanity has failed to make much of a mark on the SD scene since debuting, apparently the original plans for them were scrapped even before debuting, so they need some help to get back on track. To me the perfect ending would be simple, both teams fighting, close calls throughout and then Kofi Kingston turns his back on New Day, leaving Xavier and Big E to fend for themselves against the three Sanity members. Wolfe and Young double team Big E through a table, then shortly after Nikki Cross makes an appearance and pushes Woods into Killian Dain's grasp to hit the Ulster Plantation through a table.

Strowman vs Owens: Cage Match - I'd make this one a pretty quick match, Strowman gets some offense in and has the definitive upper hand on Owens, when Owens manages to kick Braun in the back of the knee and get enough offense in to quickly escape the cage. Strowman recovers in time to see Owens hit the ground and collapse and he stands up, rips the door off the cage and grabs ahold of Owens on the ramp, he then manages to throw Owens through the wall of the cage, back into the ring where a beatdown ensues before the locker room breaks up the brawl.

Finn Balor vs Baron Corbin: Corbin gets some offense in early and looks to be ahead, but after a few tries to pin Balor and Balor refusing to give up, Corbin gets angry, loses his temper and Balor outsmarts Corbin, catches him in a mistake and finishes him with a shotgun dropkick and a Coup de Grace for the win.

Jeff Hardy vs Shinsuke Nakamura: Hardy tries to get his offense in, but Nakamura stays one step ahead through most of the match and keeps Jeff bottled up with a lot of fierce striking in a brutally physical match. After finishing Hardy with a kinshasa, Nakamura gets the pin to win the belt and then grabs a steel chair and uses it to deliver another kinshasa to sell some injuries for Hardy to keep him off TV for a while, so he can recover from real injuries.

Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley: The match is proceeding back and forth until Reigns gets the upper hand and goes for the Superman Punch, Lashley dodges it, catches Reigns and rolls him up for a quick victory that allows Reigns to say he was the better man and Lashley got lucky, while Lashley proceeds to SummerSlam as the #1 contender against Brock.

Dolph Ziggler vs Seth Rollins: They are fighting back and forth and with a few minutes left Ziggler goes up 2-1 thanks to a distraction by Drew McIntyre. Rollins fights frantically to tie the score up and comes close a few times, out of desperation Ziggler resorts to using a steel chair to get DQ'd to tie the match up, but the shot allows him in the closing seconds to get the decisive pinfall on Rollins.

Bludgeon Brothers vs Team Hell No: The Bludgeon Bros dominate respect into the Devil's favorite Demon and pin Kane so that he's never to be heard from again and Bryan can go onto a feud with the Miz.

Carmella vs Asuka: Asuka gets Carmella into the Asuka lock, but James Ellsworth throws some sort of weapon down to Carmella from the shark cage. Carmella tries to use the weapon to get out of the Asuka Lock, but Asuka blocks it and picks up the win. She then has the ref let Ellsworth out of the cage and gets some comedic shots with the weapon in to end the match and celebrate her championship.

Hardy and Wyatt vs the B Team: The best way to handle this match is to get it over with as fast as possible and then have Hardy and Wyatt lose the belts to a real team like the Authors of Pain as quickly as possible.

Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax - Nia Jax is beating Alexa when Mickie James gets involved to even the odds, Ronda jumps the barricade and tries to take out Bliss, but instead hits Jax, and Alexa wins, setting up a triple threat (or fatal fourway) for SummerSlam.

AJ Styles vs Rusev - Before this match starts it's announced that the match will be a submission match. Styles and Rusev just go at it and put on a great show before AJ wins with the calf crusher.

New Day vs Sanity: Tables Match - The Dudley Boyz return and put New Day through the tables, making Sanity win the match. Bubba then asks the fans if they know who he is and announces that Bully Ray is back and Aces & Eights is reformed with the first members being the Dudleys and Sanity.

Strowman vs Owens: Strowman flips the ring over to bury Kevin Owens underneath it, but when doing so uncovers a leprechaun village underneath the ring. Dozens of angry leprechauns (led by Hornswoggle), gang up on Strowman and beat him down, stealing his Money in the Bank briefcase in the process. Owens wins.

Finn Balor vs Baron Corbin: Before the match begins Kurt Angle comes out and announces that this will now be a Loser Leaves WWE match, and also that he is resigning as GM of Raw so that he can train for the next Olympics. Balor wins the match.

Jeff Hardy vs Shinsuke Nakamura: Hardy is about to hit a Swanton Bomb off the stage, but right before he lands, Nakamura catches him with the most devastating low blow of all time (somehow). After the match, Nakamura cuts an amazing Austin 3:16 like promo and ends it with "sorry no speak Engrish"

Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley: Before the match starts, Lashley blindsides Roman to get the upper hand. Throughout the match Lashley tries every dirty trick in the book, including but not limited to: eye pokes, low blows, referee distractions, interference, using a toddler as a human shield, and setting fire to a CM Punk shirt. As the ref is knocked down, members of ISIS and Al Qaeda attack Roman, but he kicks out. Roman wins with a Spear and is congratulated by The Rock, Barack Obama, and Brock Lesnar after the match. The crowd still boos Roman.

Dolph Ziggler vs Seth Rollins: Both guys put on a match that Meltzer gives 8.235 stars to. The finish is Rollins hitting a corkscrew 360 Phoenix Curb Stomp Splash off the top rope. Michael Cole announces that Rollins' next PPV match will be against Titus O'Neal.

Bludgeon Brothers vs Team Hell No: The Bludgeon Bros rip Kane's mask off, revealing it is actually Knox County mayoral candidate Glen Jacobs underneath it. Glen runs out of the arena in shame, but backstage he runs into President Donald Trump. Trump says he only came to support his black friend Bobby Lashley, but ends up giving a motivational speech to Jacobs, telling him that this kind of scandal is nothing compared to what he did before being elected president, so Glen shouldn't be afraid of who he is. A motivated Kane runs back into the ring just as Daniel Bryan is about to lose, cleans house, and wins the match.

Carmella vs Asuka: Carmella beats Asuka clean. Asuka cuts a promo post-match and says that Carmella proved she is ready for Asuka. Backstage, Asuka commits seppuku.

Hardy and Wyatt vs the B Team: Hardy and Wyatt make their entrance but the B Team does not. Liam Neeson comes out and says that due to a paperwork mistake they are not going to face the B Team but the A-TEAM instead. Rampage Jackson, Bradley Cooper, and that other guy come out and have a Final Deletion type of match with Hardy and Wyatt that spills outside the arena and into the city. The match ends with Matt Hardy no-selling being hit with a rocket launcher as Bray hits Sister Abigail on Bradley Cooper through lava.

Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax - Nia Jax wins and then calls out UFC's Cris Cyborg, who comes to the ring, runs down the women's division, and says she's coming for Nia Jax, motherfucker. Cyborg is then interrupted by Awesome Kong, who says she's coming for Cris Cyborg, motherfucker. Awesome Kong is then interrupted by Triple H, who isn't quite sure how he fits into this but it seems like the hottest thing going. So he says he's coming for Awesome Kong, motherfucker.

AJ Styles vs Rusev - Christopher Daniels costs Styles the championship and claims that he and Styles are "destined to do this forever". Rusev celebrates with the WWE title as Vladimir Putin comes out to congratulate him. Aiden English hoists Rusev on top of his shoulders while Putin gives Rusev a thumbs up. But then Putin gives a thumbs down and Aiden English drops Rusev. They beat Rusev down and then Hornswoggle cashes in Money in the Bank to become WWE Champion. Vince McMahon comes out to congratulate his [illegitimate] son and keeps yelling "it was him Austin, it was him all along, Austin!" even though nobody called Austin is nearby. Vince announces that Hornswoggle has just been signed to an exclusive contract by the XFL and will only defend the WWE Championship there. The show fades to black with the McMahons, Putin, and Trump standing tall as nWo music plays.

I don't watch any WWE these days, but I hear about what's happening on wrestling podcasts, and almost none of these matches seem interesting to me. I can't resist a good fantasy booking challenge, so I'm still going to give this a try, but it does add an extra level of difficulty. Because I need some of these finishes to save matches that would otherwise fall flat.

New Day vs Sanity: I'm actually going to steal a spot that Sanity used in NXT in the past. New Day look like they're about to get the win when Nikki Cross appears from out of nowhere and stops them by attacking Kingston and/or Woods. She tries to splash a standing Big E through a table positioned behind him, but Big E catches her in midair. Before he can put her down, Dane hits a big splash driving both Big E and Cross through the table and winning the match. Sanity (including Cross) all celebrate together afterwards, and you drive home the fact that Nikki isn't bothered at all that Dane sacrificed her to win the match, because they're all nuts.

Strowman vs Owens: This match sucks. The cage match is supposed to stop Owens from running away, but Braun has already beaten the crap out of him a bunch of times. He's just bullying the heel at this point. The only way to save this is to use the match to build heat for Owens. Braun can dominate most of the match until Owens retrieves a pair of brass knuckles he had stowed at the top of the cage. He beats Braun down viciously (a blade job would help) and then goes to climb out. Braun suddenly rises from the dead like a movie monster and tries to cut Owens off at the top of the cage, but one last right hand with the brass knuckles sends him crashing to the mat and Owens climbs down the side of the cage to victory.

Finn Balor vs Baron Corbin: This match also sucks. Both guys are going nowhere, so again I'd book a finish to put some heat on Corbin so people will care when they face each other in the future. Balor tries the shotgun dropkick early and misses and ends up kicking the post. Corbin works the leg for the match. Balor eventually gets the comeback and tries for the coup de grace, but he injures his leg further executing the move and can't make the cover. Corbin recovers and continues beating the hell out of Balor's leg, and he can't defend himself, so the referee calls the match off and Corbin wins by referee stoppage. He beats on the leg some more after the match before being dragged off. Now the rematch has heat and an actual story.

Hardy vs Nakamura: A simple finish would work best here. Hardy's comeback is cut off by a stiff strike and Nakamura sends Hardy into the corner. Hardy tries the whisper in the wind, but Nakamura rolls out of the way and Hardy crashes and burns. He's hit with a Kinshasa as soon as he gets back to his feet. 123.

Lashley vs Reigns: A Lashley win here could help him get over as a main event contender. A win for Reigns accomplishes nothing. After a brawl-heavy match I'd have Reigns hit the spear but Lashley kicks out. He tries the spear again but Lashley counters with a knee to the face and then spears Reigns half way across the ring. Plays to the crowd. Hoists Reigns up for his big suplex. Hits it. Hits it a second time. Pins him and wins.

Rollins vs Ziggler: Rollins almost gets a surprise pinfall early, so McIntyre and Ziggler beat the crap out of Rollins to give him the first fall but weaken him in the process. Ziggler dominates afterwards and has evened up the score five minutes later. Late in the match, the referee takes a shove and is temporarily distracted. Ziggler tries for an O'Connor roll and Drew tries to strike Rollins from the apron. Rollins ducks and Drew hits Ziggler instead. Curb Stomp, Seth wins.

Bludgeon Brothers vs Team Hell No: When the match breaks down towards the end, Miz appears and attacks Bryan. The two brawl out through the crowd, leaving Kane to fend for himself. The Bludgeon Brothers dominate and pin him and write him off tv again.

Carmella vs Asuka: John's version of this was perfect. Asuka dominates until Ellsworth drops a weapon. Carmella uses the weapon on Asuka, but Asuka kicks out. She tries to use it again but Asuka blocks it and locks in the Asuka Lock for the instant tap. Afterwards Asuka waits for a terrified Ellsworth to be released from the cage. He tries to stay in the cage and cowers before Asuka when it's eventually opened, but she just pats him on the head and leaves with the title as Ellsworth and Carmella put themselves together in the ring.

Hardy and Wyatt vs B Team: Even if this starts as a regular match, they should disappear backstage and the match should end with miscellaneous Broken Matt bullshit, because there's no way of making anyone care about this match between the actual ropes. King Maxel with the distraction, the drone shoots some fireworks, and Bray hits the Sister Abigail in some ridiculous backstage location.

Bliss vs Jax: Christ, how could anyone possibly care? This card fucking sucks. I'd make this a mercifully short brawl with both women trash talking Ronda at various points. Someone gets shoved into her at some point, she gets pissed off and destroys both of them. Match ends in a no contest due to both competitors being too fucked up. An extreme rules match ending in a no contest? Yes, I know that would usually suck, but it would get more of a reaction here than probably anything else they could do.

Styles vs Rusev: This should be the main event, for starters, but I guarantee it won't be. I'd have Rusev almost win with the Accolade but Styles fights out. Rusev tries to get it in again but Styles hits a back elbow and a Pele Kick, then hits a Styles Clash. Rusev kicks out and Styles is shocked. He goes up top and hits a Spiral Tap to win the match. Commentators talk about Styles needing to dig deep into his arsenal to beat Rusev, and Rusev putting up a hell of a fight. Styles raises Rusev's hand after the match and they officially turn Rusev Day face (which the fans have wanted for months).

Incidentally, there's no chance that I'm watching this show regardless of what happens. The G1 started today, there's too much good wrestling available right now to bother with main roster WWE bullshit.
