Favorite Bassist

Postby HFX » Apr 24, '14, 2:13 am

All too often the poor bassist is left out in the rain as the lead singer and guitarist draw all the attention. But many bassist are damn good and worthy of recognition for their contributions to the musical world. So PTF who is your favorite?

JOHN PAUL JONES :tim

Dude could absolutely shred. I remember hearing a story also about how he came and jammed with the Foo Fighters one time, and Dave Grohl was just in awe.

Flea the GOAT.

Sid Vicious is also another favourite of mine - even though he was shit. He just looked cool :lol

Knew it wouldn't be long before someone said Flea. He's not bad by any means, but he's highly overrated. Or maybe it just seems that way because more people know his name than most other bassists. The kind of people who play bass are often not the kind of people to do much of the band's media appearances. :P

There are a few bassists that I really like, but I'd probably have to give my #1 spot to Billy Gould from Faith No More. He was arguably the most important member of the band. Faith No More only ever used a single guitarist and Gould did a lot to fill out the sound. He played a number of different styles and rocked all of them. His riffs stood out rather than just fading into the background, but also didn't overpower the rest of the music.

Chewy might back me up on that one. But yeah, listen to Faith No More. Gould (and the band in general) is pure brilliance.

I genuinely believe that Flea is one of the best bass players going right now.
