Cover songs that were better than the original

Eva Cassidy's version of Fields of Gold is ten times better than the original.

It's not a release, but I really like this cover of Whole Lotta Love by Hozier - original by Led Zepplin (I don't particularly like the original anyway though).

I also really like Muse's cover of Feeling Good. I actually heard another cover of this recently and just thought, "Why would anyone cover this again? - the definitive cover's already been done." Realistically, I know you could; it just needs to be great.

It's an obvious one, but you gotta give it to Hendrix for All Along the Watchtower. There's a fair few Dylan covers that are really good - Dylan doesn't have the pipes to compete with some of the people who covered his songs.

I also prefer Strummer's cover of Redemption Song to Marley's original.

Also, Jose Gonzalez' cover of Heartbeats; not only because his cover's really good, but because I fucking hate the original - it's vile.

Very much agree with Smooth Criminal, but I prefer the original of Hurt (Cash's is still really good though).

I'll post a more modern cover. I prefer the Arctic Monkeys version of 'Hold on, We're Going Home' over Drake simply because I'm a big AM fan and not that crazy about Drake. (Though I feel DanielsonTHAGOAT might want to murder me for this, hip-hop aficionado that he is :P)

Dislike this cover compared to the original, and as a major NIN fan I get super pissed when people try to claim it's Cash's original work.

I also prefer Nine Inch Nail's version of Hurt. Cash's is good too though.

But the best answer to this question will always be:

Wow, this is actually great. It has a really nice smooth indie vibe to it while Drake's version has a more Marvin Gaye feel to his. I'm impressed.

The Foo Fighters cover of Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" is pretty badass:

I used to hate most covers of Such Great Heights until I heard this one. Immediately fell in love with it and after a few listens, I liked it more than the original.
