Ultimate Foo Fighters Non-Single Mix

Postby Battleaxe » Mar 14, '14, 4:19 pm

I don't know about this place, but there seemed to be a good amount of Foo Fighters fans who frequented the old board, so I thought it might be fun to try this. Put together a ten song list of your favorite NON-SINGLE Foo Fighters songs. That means no "Best Of You", "My Hero", "Walk", "Times Like These" etc. If you're able to put them in some kind of order, go for it, but I know I won't be able to haha; narrowing it down to ten will be hard enough.

"New Way Home"
"Exhausted"
"Headwires"
"My Poor Brain"
"Bridge Burning"
"Miss The Misery"
"Have It All"
"Good Grief"
"Hey, Johnny Park!"
"Ain't It The Life"

Just missed the cut/could easily make this list tomorrow: "Aurora", "Wind Up", "Alone + Easy Target", "Summer's End", "Still", "On The Mend", "M.I.A."

I somehow missed this topic!

I'd have to double-check which songs were singles, but here are some picks for me:

"Bridge Burning"
"Hey, Johnny Park!"
"Up in Arms"
"Halo"
"Come Alive"
"Razor"
"Cold Day In the Sun"
"Have a Cigar" (cover)
"Resolve"
"I Should Have Known"

Ain't it the Life would also be a really good pick, same with On the Mend, but you said only ten so I tried :lol

This is a toughie. I'm half tempted to just post everything from Color & the Shape as I think that's their best effort by a decent margin. But I'll try to put a bit more thought into it.

"Alone + Easy Target"
"Hey, Johnny Park"
"New Way Home"
"February Stars"
"Gimme Stitches"
"Tired of You"
"Razor"
"Bridge Burning"
"Miss The Misery"
"I Should Have Known"

That wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. If anything, I was struggling to get up to 10. If this exercise taught me anything it's that Foo Fighters singles were very well chosen.

I did wonder how it was possible for someone with a name like Everlong to not be participating, haha.

Agreed. It's my favorite album by a mile.

"The Deepest Blues are Black" came on my ipod while driving yesterday, that'd be another good one for me.

My favorite part of that song is the vocal melody during the chorus. Dave has such a knack for putting together a great chorus.

Ahh. Shit. That one is hard. :lol

Well I liked Foo Fighters a lot for Color and the Shape and Nothing Left to Lose, but I thought they got a little mediocre after that until Wasting Light, which was an incredible return to form in my own opinion. So I'd probably lean more towards stuff from those three albums. But while I didn't much like the albums in between, they all had some really good singles. So ... yeah this is hard.

Okay, lets give it a go:

1) Rope
2) Walk
3) Walking After You
4) Everlong
5) I'll Stick Around

That actually hurt a little. :lol I love most of their singles. Long Road to Ruin is the only one I actively dislike. And Low, All My Life and The Pretender are all songs I'd listen to but don't love. Everything else is golden.

My thoughts about their catalog are much the same. Though I didn't care much for Nothing Left To Lose when it was released, it's since grown on me in a big way, and while I admit that One By One, overall, is a fairly mediocre album, "All My Life" restored my faith in their ability to "rock", to the point where One By One didn't leave my CD player for months. In Your Honor is kind of tough for me to judge, as the rock half is perhaps their weakest material to date, collectively. The acoustic half, however, is pretty fantastic in my opinion, so I could never call In Your Honor a "bad" album. Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace has a few standouts, but it feels like they were trying to cram too many different styles into one album, and trying to be "epic", which is a big part of why I think everyone loved Wasting Light so much (myself included).

As for my five singles, two of them actually make your list of songs you'd listen to, but don't love haha.

"All My Life"
"Everlong"
"Times Like These"
"The Pretender"
"This Is A Call"
