Coldplay's new album "Ghost Stories"

I downloaded the new Coldplay album on iTunes this morning and am giving it a listen. I dig it so far. It's not their best work, their first two albums are still easily the best stuff they've put out. But I like that they've at least attempted to go back to their roots to the style that made them so unique and intriguing to begin with. Over the last few albums they've been getting more and more over the top with their sound, and this album is different; more reserved and a bit more experimental.

On the down side, I don't know if they have any truly great single songs coming off this album, but they've done a nice job of putting together an effort that works really well as an entire album.

Out of their 6 albums, I'd say this one probably ranks 3rd or 4th. Worth picking up if you're a fan.

I saw a review for it in the paper this morning that was almost entirely negative, so it's interesting to hear a fan's perspective. I've never been much of a fan of the band, I like a handful of their songs but have never bought one of their albums.

I read the one from the Guardian that I thought was very poorly written, not sure if that's the one you're talking about. They gave it a 2/5. There was another one from a bigger website that gave it a 3.5/5 that I thought was more fairly written, and that's probably the rating I"d give it as well.
