Stranger Things.

Talk about movies and television in here!

Stranger Things.

Surprised there hasn't been any other talk about this on here. It's a pretty huge show. I just got done watching the first season this week. Anyone else been watching it? What do you think?

I really liked it. It's a great little throwback to the films of the 80's. Everything right down to the theme music has such an 80's feel. Sure, it's got most of the cliches you would see in those movies but that's what I liked about it. There were so many nods to so many classics. You can tell they drew inspiration from films such as Goonies, ET, Stand By Me, Poltergeist and much more. The production quality is great too. It looks as good as a motion picture. The acting is great as well. Winona Ryder does a brilliant job and all of the child actors are really good.

I really liked it. I know it's an homage to 80s movies and the 80s in general, but I still think that it stands on its own as a compelling story. The music was really cool and atmospheric, the acting was great pretty much across the board, particularly from Winona Ryder and the kid who played Eleven.

The kid actors were all really good. I particularly liked the character of Dustin. He was great. Solving all of life's problems through the power of Dungeons & Dragons. That's my kind of kid.

One of the things I really liked about the show is how smart and competent all the characters were. There were no dumb "don't go up the stairs, you moron" moments. Whenever any of the major characters were in some kind of bind or had some problem that needed solving, they were always resourceful and came up with a clever way of dealing with things. That was a major plus for me, from a sci-fi/horror show.

I absolutely loved it. My wife and I went through it in like two days. I'm iffy about there being a second season, as it seemed like one perfect story in the first season and I'm doubtful they can replicate its quality, but if there's a good plan in place then I will be happy to watch it.

Agreed with @Hanley! about the atmosphere. Loved the music and the commitment to the 80s theme. Also about the kid actors... they were impressive.

There were plenty of instances where you had to suspend disbelief, but hey, that's sci fi in general. Overall it was one of the stronger seasons of a TV show I've seen.
