What's the best film you've seen in the theater so far this year, and what's the best film you've ever seen in the theater?

I've seen probably 5 films this year and I don't remember any of them. The best film I've ever seen in the theaters was probably Fight Club. But I haven't seen many great films in the theaters.

Best film this year, probably Iron Man 3. Best experience was Man if Steel which I saw on the world's biggest IMAX screen in Sydney. It looked incredible even if the film itself was awful.

Of all time, hard to say really. I'd probably have to go with one of the Lord of the Rings films. Seeing Fellowship of the Ring was the first time going to the cinema felt like an experience. It was the first time a film felt like a big deal to me or important in someway.

The Avengers, I'm a marvel fan so seeing this on the big screen for the first time made me feel like a little kid again.

Me and my brother randomly went to see it as we were in town and it had come out that day I think, the screen was HUGE and I didn't really expect much but I LOVED it. It was just great.

This is hard for me to answer because when I hear best movie, I think about my favourite movies. And all of my movies which I would consider favourites, I never actually saw at the cinema.

I suppose I would just go for the most fun I had while watching a movie at the cinema, which are usually comedies. And the most recent comedy I watched at the cinema was This Is The End. I can't remember a more enjoyable cinema experience. There was quite a lot of people there, which I feel adds to the atmosphere when watching a movie. And the movie itself was hilarious. The whole cinema was laughing their arses off throughout.

I think I've only seen two movies in the theater that went on to win Best Picture - those being Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and The Departed. I've seen plenty of other movies that were nominated for Best Picture in the theater though, including:

True Grit
Inglorious Basterds
District 9
The Social Network
Toy Story 3

That's just a few off the top of my head.

My favorite movie experiences have probably been seeing The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises at midnight with tons of other people who were totally amped up for the movie as well.

Toy Story 3 or The Tree of Life. I'm more inclined to sit with the former, though, since Malick's film failed to really follow up on a rewatch.

I saw The Lion King in theatres back when it first came out. Also the three Lord of the Rings films were pretty damn great. The most fun I remember having was The Dark Knight. I went with a couple friends a couple weeks after it first opened and it was just a fun experience. The theatre was still packed to the brim and everyone was excited and made for a great atmosphere.

For this year it's probably either Star Trek or Pacific Rim. I had high hopes for Star Trek already but had no idea what to expect from Pacific Rim. It really shocked me with how good it was.

This year, the best movie I've seen in the theatre by far has been China Town. There were a bunch of Roman Polanski films showing in the Irish Film Institute at the start of the year and I saw it there for the first time. Really enjoyable film - slow paced but in an interesting methodical way. Nicholson was great and the villain was truly loathsome and disturbing.

The only new movies I saw in the cinema this year were Star Trek and Pacific Rim and both were mediocre. I didn't really dislike either of them, but they were just fluff. Very shallow and not particularly memorable. Not worth a second viewing.

In terms of all time, I have no idea. Usually I'm someone who goes to the movies a lot, so I've seen a lot of my favourite films in the cinema.
