I finally watched the Star Wars movies

Talk about movies and television in here!

I finally watched the Star Wars movies

Postby Str8Shooter » Jun 01, '16, 6:47 pm

So yes, after much talk, and after nearly 30 years of life without seeing any of the Star Wars movies, I finally sat down and watched Episodes IV, V, and VI over the past couple weeks. I then watched The Force Awakens. Didn't watch any of the prequels because they weren't that relevant to the story here and everyone says how terrible they are all the time.

Anyway, long story short I think they're awesome and I loved the Force Awakens, it was badass. I love Finn and Rey and I think the series is in good hands with them. :tim

YAAAAAAS finally! :tim :tim

I think now that you've watched the good ones, you should actually watch the prequels just to see how bad they are. They're worth a once through for that sort of context alone.

Glad you finally got caught up on this cultural experience :P

I think the prequels are worth watching if for no other reason than they teach a very valuable lesson: sometimes, total creative freedom isn't necessarily a good thing.

The original trilogy was an amazing thing, and it pretty much all came from the mind of George Lucas, but because he was still kind of a novice director and creative mind, he needed a team of people to help rein in his vision. People weren't sure of him yet, and technology wasn't nearly what it is today, so he had to make a few compromises. By the time the prequels came around, George Lucas and Star Wars were one and the same, so, why not let Lucas have total free reign? We were finally going to get Star Wars the way Lucas wanted to tell it all along! And... well, we know what happened.

You can be the most creative person on the planet, you can have grand visions of far off lands and epic battles, but sometimes, you need a buffer. You need some people to go, "Maybe that's not the best idea." You need limitations in order to push the boundaries of those limitations. When you have total control, things can get out of control pretty quickly.

He's 29.

Also, The Phantom Menace is a great movie. Watch Jar Jar Binks closely and you'll see some sinister mind control shit going on. He's the ultimate villain, controlling the destinies of pretty much all of the heroes. Lucas sort of dropped the ball with the next two but they have their merits. The CGI is annoying but the storyline is very complex.
