Star Wars or: Viazon finally watches popular movie franchises

Postby Viazon » Aug 09, '15, 9:46 am

So, don't freak out or nothing, but as of this weekend, I had never seen any Star Wars movies.

However, I have been written off work for two weeks with a bad back, which is already starting to feel better. (Score.) So I have a lot of time on my hands. And luckily enough, Sky Movies have every single one of they currently on demand.

I was wondering though, is there any particular order I should watch them in? Should I have started with the prequels first? I decided to just watch them in the order they were released and watch Episode IV last night. Looking forward to watching the rest and seeing what the fuss is about.

The funny thing is, I have seen enough Star Wars parodies and things in pop culture that I know enough about it and what happens without actually seeing the movie. It's weird to actually watch the movie now and recognize so many things that I have seen before but not from the actual movie.

Yeah, watch them in order of release: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3.

Afterwards, proceed to imagine that 1, 2 and 3 never existed.

I think a popular order is 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. (1 is optional as it's the least relevant to everything)

Yeah, I'd recommend the order 4, 5, 2, 3, 6.

There's no need to watch episode one. It sucks, and nothing important happens in it.

Basically by watching 4 and 5 first, you get Luke's story. Then when you find out that Vader is Luke's father, you get to go back and see Vader's history in 2 and 3 as if it's a flashback. And then you get to finish with the actual conclusion to their whole story in episode 6.

Skipping the prequels altogether is also an option, as none of them are all that great. But the third one has its merits at least, so if you've got time to kill and are curious, I'd suggest 4, 5, 2, 3, 6.

As bad as the prequels are, I still think it's important for any Star Wars fan to watch all six films, no matter how bad they can get. If you like the originals, you will definitely be entertained by the prequels. They'll be much worse, true, but they do tie everything together nicely in the end. And Honestly, Ep. II is way worse than Ep. I.

I'd go for the order that they were released in (4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3). Hanley's order is also a good idea (but I'd add 1 in, so it'd be 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6) because Vader's arc will have a lot more meaning to it if you save the 6th film for last. So it's totally up to you. But I'd only pick between those two orders; for the love of the Force, don't watch the prequels first.

So, I watched all of them. The order I watched then in was 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6.

Good movies. Episode 1 bored me a little but over all they were entertaining. Just one question though. Is the acting supposed to be intentionally cheesy? I felt it was that way it the original trilogy but it was even like that it the recent ones.

Also, Palpatine in the prequel trilogy is also the Emperor from the first trilogy. I know this was the case because I have heard so much about Star Wars from other people and other films and shows to know this. But my question is, are we supposed to know that's him while we are watching the prequels or was it supposed to come as a shock?

Honestly I'm not sure. The prequels play out as if it's going to be a shock that Palpatine is the Emperor, but it shocked literally zero people...I mean, it's the same actor for fuck's sake.

I think it'd only shock you if you watched them in chronological order and lived under a rock from all Star Wars stuff in the last 30+ years.

What Hanley said except with Episode 1. Also known as what James said. (Mind you I also mentioned the order that Hanley did but he's Hanley so it's what Hanley said :P )

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH 1. 1 IS BAD.

Yeah but I can understand if I watch it in a completely different order but I didn't. Watching I doesn't mean I missed out on anything. I just watched the worst one. I wanted to watch all of them.

2 is even worse (but it's more relevant to the overall story so it gets included)

I'd say Star Wars Episode 2 is a contender for the worst film I've ever seen. It's up there with Spiderman 3.

And Episode II is worse than Episode I.

Count me in as people who believe 2 is worse than 1.

1 is really bad. 2 is an abomination. 3 at least has some redeeming qualities.

I like them all for their own reasons. Three is my favorite of the three, but there are bits of both one and two that I really like. I think they're all worth watching, but obviously nothin' holds a candle to the original three. Even better if you can get the original three in their original un-remastered state (just for nostalgia's sake, the "remasters" don't change enough to make such a big goddamn deal like some people would lead you to believe - Han shooting first may be the only questionable decision but in the grand scheme of things it makes little difference).
