He is believable as a teenager at least. Other than that, his appearance makes me concerned that they might be going the really old fashioned nerd Parker route, which I think is outdated and isn't as relatable to people from nowadays.

I don't really care what they do with Spiderman now though. I enjoyed Garfield's performance a lot, but this reboot is one too many. I thought it was dumb to reboot again, there doesn't seem to be any point to it. I'm a fan of the character, but I don't think I want to see what they do with him for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, I figured you'd feel like that after what you've said about it before. We've had the conversation already but I'm still in the camp who really didn't like Garfield and were chuffed at the news of a recast. I think they will be going for the nerdy Parker this time but it will almost certainly be a lot more fun and less mopey than Maguire. I'm quite excited to see how this Spider-Man pans out, seeing him in Civil War will be cool.

I'm with James here. I don't think Toby was all that great but I appreciated him more when we got Garfield who I think under performed. The first movie was good IMO, the second one wasn't. So this recast is cool by me.

I'm still waiting for them to announce that they will bring back JK Simmons as JJJ. It would be a travesty to have anyone else play that role.

I agree that they took some missteps with the most recent film, but the cast was the best thing about it. By far. I just think recasting was nothing but an attempt to drum up more publicity and make it look like they're fixing the things people disliked about the film without making any actual effort to do so.

I mean, they're not even doing the origin story. Why not keep going with the same cast and just make better films?

It's almost TNA-like in my mind. Change for change's sake. Throwing too many new ideas at the wall so they don't have to actually try to dig deeper with something and work on finding something that's really good. They had a problem and instead of dealing with it, they're just papering over the cracks. Addressing the problem in the least mature way possible, basically.

I'd be amazed if the new film was more than mediocre. It probably won't be bad, cos Spiderman is an easy character to work with. But I doubt it'll be all that good. There are too many superhero movies out there as it is, and I somehow doubt the third version of Spiderman is going to be the film that brings something fresh and interesting to the genre.

Still, I guess I'll wait for reviews and if they're really good I'll check the film out. I have always been a fan of Spiderman more so than most of the Marvel characters.

Would have just kept Garfield if they aren't doing the origin story again. I've never heard of Tom Holland honestly but he looks about 14 years old. Surely Peter would have aged by now wouldn't he.
