...and I think for the first time in history, an animated show kept up the continuity and acknowledge something that actually happened a few seasons prior.

In the episode, the family wanted a dog, but Stan firmly refused to get a dog. He stated that he never ever wants to own a dog. Watching this episode, I kept thinking about past episodes where they have indeed owned a dog. I just put it off as a typical animated show thing, where they completely forget about something that has happened before. But sure enough, Francine then reminded Stan of those other times when they had a dog, both of which being the two episodes I was thinking off. Stan just shrugged it off and said that those instances must of just been dreaming. Clearly, it was poking fun at other times animated shows have know to do this but was still funny to see. At least they acknowledge that it had happened before.
