Or he could live and take the throne since he's the rightful heir.

I give that less than zero percent chance of happening.

And technically Jon would having an argument to be the rightful heir if he's Rhaegar's son, no? Rhaegar was the heir to the throne, Jon his eldest son?

Why do so many people think Jon will sit the Iron Throne? Nothing we know about Jon says he'd want any part in a war for the Iron Throne, no matter whose son he is. His battle is against the Others.

Because it's the most likely scenario in my eyes.

Become resurrected, be a major force in quashing the Others, win the support of the people, sit the Iron Throne.

It's a sensible story arc, much more so than Dany ever sitting the throne (she's on her way to mad king syndrome) or Stannis (he's a placeholder) or Aegon (still don't buy his place in the story at all).

They lost the throne. The throne is currently held by the Baratheon family. Now if the Lannisters openly held the throne and claimed their treachery a conquest then they would be the ruling family.

Jon's more than entitled to try and win back the throne but his families claim was lost when they lost the war. Stannis Baratheon is the rightful heir to the iron throne which is currently held by the Baratheon family.

I think it would be out of character for Jon to want to be king. He rejected Stannis' offer of becoming Lord of Winterfell because he's a different person than he once was. And he'd have the same attitude after finding out who his real parents are too (I accept R+L=J as canon at this point). When he finds out who his parents were I expect him to be overwhelmed with emotion, only to think, "Well, that's great, but that doesn't matter. This is who I am. This is who I became. Still don't give a shit about everything happening down south. Bugger your stupid throne, I got ice zombies to kill."

Haven't even finished the bloody episode yet but god fucking dammit Stannis. Motherfucker just became the biggest piece of shit in all the Seven Kingdoms. Sad state of affairs when right now I couldn't give a fuck if Ramsay skullfucks him.

I hereby reject and rescind every good thing i've said about Stannis of the House Baratheon.

I'm done investing in a character. I'll just observe and not really care about anyone.

Why did you do this to me Stannis, George?

Are you guys really that surprised that Stannis did this? He's always been kind of a POS, and I always thought it was generally presumed that Shireen was getting burned eventually. It'll happen in TWOW for sure.

I'm not surprised Mel burned Shireen.

I'm surprised Stannis decided to do it.

I'm in the same boat, I've -never- understood people's support of Stannis. Everyone lost their fucking minds in the episode where Stannis -barely- gave his daughter a hug because it was the first time he ever showed an ounce of humanity. This guy has always been a piece of shit, his wife's a piece of shit, and the only reason I ever invested in his story was his sweet daughter and his loyal as loyal can get noble servant, Davos. I hope Davos comes back and burns Stannis at the stake.

Yes. I'm really suprised. This goes against everything they've been doing with Stannis this season. If Stannis continued being a cold asshole then I wouldn't be shocked that he decided to burn his daughter. But after that scene earlier in the season? What the fuck was that about? Why have Stannis monologue about how he has always loved and protected his daughter? To add shock value? It's a terrible decision. I expected Shireen to burn, but I expected Mel or even Selyse to do it behind the Mannis' back. I really don't get this.

Apparently it was GRRM's idea, but nobody's saying to what extent it was his idea. Since Stannis is far away from Shireen in the books, I'll theorize that it will be Mel and Selyse who burn her in TWOW. Especially after all the textual evidence in favor of Stannis not burning her himself.

Surprised me but I was completely okay with it. Stannis is the epitome of "do what you have to do". If he hadn't, there's no way that he and his men would have survived (Presumably. We'll see how the next episode goes.). He never lets his emotions dictate his logic. Is he a cunt? Yup. I'll still like Stannis though regardless.

I'm mixed on this. Some people are saying that Stannis has always been a piece of shit, and that's completely untrue as far as I can see. People are painting him as someone who's desperate for power, but I don't think he's that character. The reason he thinks he should be king is because he's genuinely the next in line and he thinks things should be done properly.

And though he does some evil shit sometimes, it tends to be in the context of what needs to be done. He doesn't kill people just for sport, or for politics. He's one of the few people in the books - or maybe the only person - who always seems to be acting for what he believes is the greater good. Regardless of the consequences. He marched his army North, even though it wasn't strategically the best move, because the seven kingdoms needed protecting. That shows that he doesn't put his own needs first.

So I don't believe he's just a cunt through and through, which is why it saddens me that he's had Shireen killed. Before this he was a character that I supported, and now I can't do that any longer. But I'm not sure it's out of character either. He's someone willing to make great personal sacrifices for what he believes is the greater good. He's seen genuine miracles performed by this God of Light. He sadly doesn't have much reason to doubt what Melisandre is telling him. If he thinks this is what needs to be done in order for the forces of good to prevail, it makes sense to me that he would do it.

Unfortunately though, it means that he can't be a character that the audience supports anymore. He's now merely a complicated villain or at best an unlikable anti-hero. I'll kinda miss rooting for the Mannis! Hopefully Jon Snow gets more involved in the war against the Boltons to give us someone to really cheer for.

Stannis is the king Westeros deserves, just not the one it needs right now.

FINALE TONIGHT GET HYPED

If Stoneheart appears I demand max rep from everybody that has posted in this thread for calling it after like...episode three :lol

Fully expect the last scene to feature Jon Snow, interested to see Dany (for the first time ever) and whether or not Shireen's sacrifice will have an impact on the Boltons.

Very pumped for tonight's finale. Cersei's walk, "For the Watch", Battle of Winterfell, dragons loose in Mereen, the possible inclusion of LSH. But above all, I'm just hoping that something epic happens in Dorne so that the storyline wasn't completely stupid and useless.

I'm also mentally preparing my body for the death of Bronn. I freaked out when he was bladed because I knew it was poisoned, I freaked out when that became reality and I thought he was about to die and I'm freaking out now because I'm 90% sure he's about to have his head hacked off by Areo Hotah. I see Jaime, Bronn, Trystane and Myrcella heading for Kings Landing only to be ambushed by the Sand Snakes (who will cut Myrcella's face in the melee). I think Hotah will show up to help battle the Snakes but Bronn will engage him because he'll think the opposite and in the fight scene we'll something reminiscent of what happened to Arys Oakheart in the books. :( :( :( :( :( :(
